Unfortunately, I have to agree that giving sedatives to condemned inmates is a good idea. Here's why: When someone knows they are about to die, instincts kick in and they do anything they can to live. It's simple human nature. It's not unheard of for someone to want to fight to the death to prevent their own death. So for the safety of the correctional staff members, I think it's best to give the inmate a sedative to allow for a smoother execution.
That's not to say that they don't deserve to die a horrible painful way because of what they did, but would you feel better knowing they felt a little bit more pain without the sedative, or would you rather see the family members of the officer that was killed while moving the inmate to the execution chamber?
