I believe it's important to find out exactly what happened in every death of an American solider, the details so far into the friendly fire death of Pat Tillman paints a grim saddening view of what can happen in the fog of war.
Friendly fire deaths do much more then kill an American soldier. It brings about psychological trauma to everyone involved, especially the one who did the firing. That person will carry that memory in his head and heart for the rest of his life. He'll have nightmares about what happened over and over again. He'll hesitate and second guess himself on and off the battlefield. Granted many times there are just times when a split second reaction causes a death and it's simply an unfortunate accident, but accident or not, everyone involved feel a deep scar about what happened in their hearts.
Worse yet, some soldiers involved with friendly fire incidents never fully recover and that may lead them to suicide.
