Republican presidential candidate John McCain charged his Democratic rivals on Monday with making "reckless" promises they cannot keep by pledging speedy U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq.
McCain kicked off a week in which the war returns to center stage in Washington and on the U.S. presidential campaign, with the top American commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, to give congressional testimony on Tuesday.
"I do not believe that anyone should make promises as a candidate for president that they cannot keep if elected," McCain said to applause in a speech to a Veterans of Foreign Wars convention.
John, you can't expect these people to keep campaign promises. They're Democrats for Christ's sake. Let's not forget such gems as "making this Congress the most open and honest in history", and "Getting rid of the culture of corruption", and who could forget the "5 day work week", all the while, they knew they couldn't keep those promises.
Remember when they said they'd end the war in Iraq if elected to Congress? Well they were elected and nothing happened. They lied to their voters and the voters fell for it.
They talked a good talk, but when it came to "walking the walk", they blinked. William Jefferson, a suspected corrupt member of Congress, was put into a sensitive position by Nancy Pelosi.
Even Obama's camp, who say they opposed the war from the start, is saying "no one is talking about going to zero" troops in Iraq.
So, when you listen to Obama's speech or Hillary's speech, take a good listen. What EXACTLY are they saying? Or are they just blowing smoke up your ass?
