McCain Proposes Good Idea

John McCain has proposed a "league of democracies", which would be a group of the US and various allies, similar to the UN. This would be a vast improvement on the current situation where the UN sits idly by while atrocities are being committed.

"It could act where the U.N. fails to act," McCain says.

And, McCain adds, an organization of democracies could pressure tyrants "with or without Moscow's and Beijing's approval" and could "impose sanctions on Iran and thwart its nuclear ambitions" while helping struggling democracies succeed.

Exactly. It would allow us and our allies the ability to act without having to deal with nations that don't want to do what's right, instead of what's profitably. Notice how China and Russia both agree that Iran is trying to get a nuclear weapon, but they are dragging their feet on doing something about it because they don't want to upset a major trade partner?

If something like this took off, it would render the UN useless within a few short years. Major decisions and foreign policies would start to be decided in this "league", while the UN writes letters condemning us and doing nothing.

There comes a time when you need to start looking after yourself instead of looking after others all the while they are looking to knife you in the back.
