Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives have agreed to allow a vote next month on a bill that would end local handgun control in the District, making it easier for D.C. residents to acquire pistols, including semiautomatics, while eliminating the strict handgun-storage requirements imposed by the city.
Supporters say the bill has a good chance of passing the House, where pro-gun measures are popular. But it is unclear whether it would succeed in the Senate, where complex rules make it harder to push through legislation.
"This poses a real danger," Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) said, criticizing the legislation as "radical" because it would gut the city's gun-control rules.
How weird. Democrats are supposed to be anti-gun, pro-gun control. What's going on? Oh yeah, the Supreme Court told them that they can't do that.
But, it's a little deeper then that.
Forty-eight Democrats have signed on as sponsors of the bill, including Democrats from pro-gun districts who could be vulnerable in November's election. Norton said in a statement that those Democrats "hope to relieve election year pressure by getting a Democratic-backed bill to the floor, out of fear that the [National Rifle Association] will run hometown ads against their reelection."
Ah HA! They aren't doing it to respect your Constitutional rights. They are doing it because they don't want their asses handed to them in November. They want to maintain their majority, and even possibly extend it.
Funny, I thought I pointed out that Democrats will do and say anything to keep and gain power.
Oh yeah, I've pointed it out, over, and over, and over, and over, and over, oh hell you get the idea, again!
But wait, there's more!
The man who successfully challenged the D.C. handgun ban before the U.S. Supreme Court filed a second federal lawsuit yesterday, alleging that the District's new gun-registration system is burdensome and continues to unlawfully outlaw most semiautomatic pistols.
The suit urges U.S. District Judge Richard M. Urbina to toss most of the District's new requirements, which include ballistics tests of registered handguns. It also asks him to eliminate restrictions on semiautomatic handguns and to order D.C. police to approve the handgun applications of the three plaintiffs.
The suit could take months, if not years, to resolve. Until then, the new regulations remain in place. The District's top litigator said yesterday that he expects "a long fight" over the rules.
Heller registered a revolver with the District on July 18. He also sought to register a semiautomatic .45-caliber Colt handgun, but that application was denied because police considered it a machine gun, the suit alleges. The suit says Heller could have been arrested had he taken his semiautomatic, which he stores in Virginia, to be registered at D.C. police headquarter.
Yep, that's right, D.C is costing you and me money by denying people their Constitutional rights, even AFTER a Supreme Court decision has been handed down.
Just in case you've never seen a gun, here's a picture of a machine gun:
They are large, heavy, and will continuously fire bullets while the trigger is being held down.
Here's what Mr. Heller wanted to buy
Notice any differences? I mean besides size, shape, and operation. You have to squeeze the trigger for each bullet to be fired.
Yes, D.C authorities and politicians are THAT dumb.
So, what it boils down to, is that Democrats who represent areas where gun control is unpopular, are trying to sway with the political winds and keep their jobs, rather than standing for their principles. The worst kind of spineless weasels.
