Sen. Barack Obama said Thursday that he's in no rush to pick a vice presidential candidate, telling CNN "everybody needs to settle down" and let the vetting process run its course.
Speaking with CNN's Candy Crowley on Thursday in Bristow, Virginia, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said it's not in his best interest -- or in the interest of former rival Sen. Hillary Clinton -- to make a hasty decision about whom his running mate will be.
"We just completed this arduous process," Obama said. "It's only been two days, and I think it's not just in my interest and Sen. Clinton's interest, but in the Democratic Party's interest and the country's interest to make sure I make this decision well."
Calling his choice of running mate "the most important decision that I will make before I am president," the senator from Illinois said he would "be deliberate and systematic about it, because this will be my final counselor when I am making decisions in the White House, and I want to make sure I get it right."
That's the polite way of saying "I'm not picking Hillary, but I want to let the dust settle before I announce that to avoid voters from flocking to McCain."
Hillary is making Captain Obvious quotes about it: "Clinton said the supporters were acting on their own, and that the choice of a running mate was "Senator Obama's, and his alone.""
Well thanks Hillary, we wouldn't have guessed that now would we?
But Obama has already lost support of one group of people: Terrorist group Hamas.
The Islamist Hamas movement that rules the Gaza Strip slammed a speech by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Wednesday, saying it confirmed US "hostility" to Arabs and Muslims.
"We consider the statements of Obama to be further evidence of the hostility of the American administration to Arabs and Muslims," Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri told AFP.
It's odd though that he would lose their support given that Democrats generally blame America for the worlds problems, and Hamas shares that common belief.
But, here's my favorite Obama story:
Sen. Barack Obama, campaigning on a platform of bringing change to Washington, announced today that the Democratic National Committee will no longer accept contributions from registered lobbyists or political action committees.
Seeking to underscore a contrast with Republican Sen. John McCain, whose campaign has suffered departures by several top advisors because of their ties to lobbying, Obama said that as the Democratic Party's nominee he will make sure that "special interests" are not allowed to derail healthcare reform and other policies initiatives.
"We will not take a dime from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs," he said. "They will not fund our campaign, they will not run our party, they will not drown out the voices of the American people."
Well of course. Now that you've gotten a TON of money from them, you take the position of "high and mighty" and make it appear that you're not a Washington insider. You took millions from lobbyists and now that you've won and you've got the attention of the world, personal donations will skyrocket and you will no longer need the lobbyist money.
It's like saying "I don't need oil", once you own the oil field.
Anyone else noticing patterns here?
