With this letter, it appears like Mrs. Wakely doesn't want to write in anymore. I think she's said all she wants and sees that we both have valid opinions on the subject of the war in Iraq. I have offered her an open invitation to stay and write in as often as she'd like. Although we'll have to wait and see if she takes me up on that offer.
It's like chess between logic and illogic. We have each other in checkmate, but we disagree on who is who.
I've been remiss in the sarcasm and name calling. Unfortunate and wrong. You're certainly entitled to your opinion.
I've been retaliating against that and yes, I have a bit of sarcasm in my tone as well from time to time. Yes, and you are entitled to yours.
While it's astonishing to see your reaction to the use of an Iraqi woman with down syndrome to kill dozens of people in a suicide bombing in Baghdad, as a sign that "Al Queda Gets Desperate," rather than first acknowledging the terrible tragedy and loss of life, it is your right to say what you want, as callous and unfeeling as it may be.
Actually, I wasn't attempting to be callous or unfeeling. I was pointing out that Al-Qaeda usually has enough brainwashed people in it's ranks to go out on these suicide missions, and if they've resorted to tricking women with Down's syndrome to be bombers, then it's a sign of desperation on their part. I, in no way, tried to downplay the loss of life here. I'd rather Iraq become peaceful and rebuild itself into a democracy for which the rest of the Middle East can see as a beacon of hope.
I suspect the military and intelligence visits to your site are more along the lines of keeping touch with your intent and to see if you cross the line, rather than any agreement with your point of view. I'm sure the government keeps track of all the people who run sites with names like "right wing lunatic."
Actually, I've never had any of them come to my site to say one way or another if they agree with me, I just notice them on here from time to time. You may be right, they may be monitoring me to see if I become a "home grown threat". But alas, if they did some research on me, they'd find that not only am I not a threat to America, I'm one of her most staunch defenders.
I have a feeling when I come back, if I ever do, to see how you're coping with President Obama, I might find "Domain no longer exits," and you will have passed into oblivion, along with all the hate and anger and endless bile that is right wing conservatism today.
You're more then welcome to come here and post at any point in time. I wouldn't hold my breath on the "domain no longer exists" though. I've been doing this since October 2006, and I have no intention of quitting.
I suspect, as I've said, that there's an enormous amount of rage in this country for the current administration, and a hunger for accountability and punishment. It's still possible that more people than Scooty Libby will be tried and found guilty for the crimes they've committed. We'll see.
I honestly believe the Iraq war was launched based on lies, and I think that's unconscionable.
I disagree with the war based upon lies part, but we've already traveled down that road. However, you and I are in complete agreement with regards to Scooter Libby. I think that he should have served out his time that a judge gave him. In fact, I wrote two articles about Libby and the pardon, saying that it was a bad idea at the time:
http://www.rightwinglunatic.com/2007/07/libbys-bid-rejected.html
http://www.rightwinglunatic.com/2007/07/bush-commutes-libby.html
There is literally nothing worse a President could do. He should be held accountable under the law, as should all his apologists and enablers who have participated in those crimes. We'll see.
Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong. If a crime has been committed by George Bush while being President, then yes, he should be impeached and removed from office. I've said it before as well. Unfortunately, Congress seems to have turned into a jellyfish when it comes to that. They seem to want to "wait out the clock" rather than rock the boat. That's not what Nancy Pelosi and her ilk campaigned on. They campaigned on changing the way things are being run in Washington. She either didn't understand what it would take, or lied to American voters. Which do you think it is?
I don't feel this country can truly move forward after 8 years of lies, deceit, incompetence and the consistent breaking of the public trust, until and unless those responsible face justice. Again, we'll see.
You're right. However, I want justice across the board, including the jailing of William Jefferson and Nancy Pelosi for putting him in a position where he had access to classified documents, even after he was suspected of bribery and corruption. It shows great misjudgment at best and incompetence and corruption at worst. When I hear liberals talk about impeachment and jail, they never seem to talk about their own party members who are in trouble. When some members of the Republican party were under investigation, I called for them to be temporarily removed from office:
http://www.rightwinglunatic.com/2007/07/republicans-under-investigation.html
That was 7 months ago Mrs. Wakely, so it's not like I just recently came to that conclusion.
If Obama or Hillary wins next November, I think the pendulum will swing hard back to the left, with an exit from Iraq, a refocusing of our presence in Afghanistan, and a complete re-thinking of this country's approach to the so called "war on terror."
I think you're right, but why is it a "so called war on terror"? Everyone agrees that the terrorism threat is real. Even your boy Obama has said that.
I'm sure that phrase will be the first thing to go, as will all the other policies of Bush: environment, taxes, a woman's right to choose, gun safety, education, national security, immigration, diplomacy, health care - the list goes on and on. I think it will be a long time: 8, maybe 16 years in the wilderness for right wing conservatives. Maybe more? It might be gone for good. Why? Well, I think the whole ideology has finally been given a full chance to strut it's freakish hour in the sun, and has been exposed as utterly bankrupt and broken. I think the ascendancy of McCain, who it looks like will win the nomination, shows, once and for all, that the myth of Republican conservatism is about to enter the grave. So called "free markets," less and less regulated, so the rich and big corporations can profit at the expense of the common good, a heartlessness that says it's more important to let big Pharma and big Health Care reap billions than to recognize we owe it to our common humanity to guarantee health care for all, even if we all have to pay a bit more to do it. A government that recognizes that, when Exxon Mobil has a 4 billion dollar profit, yet 47 million people live without health care, and veterans sleep in the streets, that that government and the people who support it are immoral and un-American.
Let me ask you something. How is it that Exxon has a responsibility towards those problems you've just mentioned? How are any of these companies that you mention responsible for these problems?
There's a deep cancer at the heart of the Republican Party - "the party of Lincoln," but, of course, Lincoln was a man of principal and courage who waged a terrible war to unite the nation and abolish slavery. Lincoln would shudder at the thought that these men even invoke his name.
You and I agree there. However, the basic principles are still alive in the common people. Deficit spending, ignoring veterans, invoking religious ideals into others. These are not the core beliefs of a real Republican. Tax cuts, lesser government, including into the personal lives of others. Strong national defense. If you say you're for lesser government, then you can't go spending billions of dollars trying to do warrantless wiretapping across the board against ordinary Americans. If you're for lesser government, you can't ask for a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. I trust you more to decide what's best for your money, then a faceless government worker in Washington.
And, in the end, the truth that Jesus would be a liberal, not a conservative, passionate about helping the poor and the sick, passionate about preserving the planet, passionate about extending the hand of love and understanding to ALL people: straight, gay, sick, poor.
I'm not religious, so I can't speak for Jesus. However, I am about extending a hand to anyone who wants to help themselves. I am against helping those who just want a handout. Those in the Republican party who try to use religion as a basis for law are misguided at best. We came to this country to escape religious persecution. Freedom of religion means ALL religions. Do some searching around and you'll see where I stand on that issue.
He would cast the money changers from the temple, and remind us that we are here to extend the hand of love and friendship to our fellow man.
I think a big change is coming. I really do.
You wrote out an interesting, calm, well written piece. I applaud you for that. You in all honesty, don't have to go anywhere. You are more then welcome to come here and write about any subject you'd like. When I extended that offer to you, I meant it.
I have offered that to everyone who visits here. I have plenty of people who frequent my site who don't agree with my views, and normally, they just sit idly by, and watch from the stands. I applaud you for coming out of the woodwork and saying what you believed in. On a lighter note, you never did tell me anything about you and your secrets. :)
But truthfully Mrs. Wakely, if you want to, at any point in time, want to write an opinion piece about any subject, I'll gladly post it here. Yours and mine arguments have become quite popular. :)
Good Luck Travis
Thank you Mrs. Wakely, you too!
