Secretary of the Army Francis Harvey resigned today over the substandard conditions at Walter Reed Hospital. Also Maj. Gen. George Weightman was fired from his position as hospital commander a few days ago. Apparently, he knew about conditions 5 months ago and didn't do anything about it.
What sickens me is that I just naturally assumed that military hospitals here in the US were state of the art. I assumed that field hospitals wouldn't be that great because they are out in the field, but I just thought that when they returned to base, hospitals would have the latest equipment and the latest training for doctors on staff. I guess I was wrong. This is completely unacceptable and needs to be remedied immediately. As a taxpayer, I expect our soldiers to be taken care of with the best of the best that's out there. It's the least we can do.
