Corruption On The Democratic Side

Representative Charles B. Rangel has decided to move his campaign office out of one of four rent-stabilized apartments he leases in Harlem, his spokesman said on Monday.

Mr. Rangel has faced intense scrutiny since The New York Times reported last week that a developer had allowed him to lease rent-stabilized apartments in the Lenox Terrace luxury apartment complex at a time when some tenants are being evicted from such apartments around the city.

One of the units — a one-bedroom apartment that he paid for with money from his re-election fund and from a political action committee — had been used as a campaign office, despite city and state guidelines that require rent-stabilized apartments to be used solely as a primary residence. Because that apartment is rent-stabilized, Mr. Rangel paid $630 per month, while similar market-rate units in the building rent for $1,700 a month and higher.

If that weren't bad enough, he's accused of soliciting money from the very people he's supposed to be making judgements for:

The powerful House Democrat Rep. Charles Rangel is facing new ethical questions in a report that says he used his congressional office to solicit $30 million in donations to an academic center bearing his name.

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Rangel has sought money from companies that have business before the committee he chairs -- the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee -- and has used his congressional stationary and other amenities available to him as a congressman to do so.

In other words, he's using his power for corrupt reasons.

This is the same guy who leases a brand new Cadillac for $744 a month, that YOU pay for.

The guy is as crooked as a dog's leg, and yet, no one seems to care.  That's now 3, THREE members of the Democratic side of Congress with suspicions of corruption or conflicts of interest/ethics.

The other two of course are Christopher Dodd for his sweetheart Countrywide refinance deal and William "$90,000 in the freezer" Jefferson.

So, Nancy, when are you planning on getting rid of the "culture of corruption"?  It's in your own backyard, you're in charge, and it's within your own party.  We're waiting Nancy.
