White House office wins ruling on e-mail records

The White House Office of Administration is not required to turn over records about a trove of possibly missing e-mails, a federal judge ruled Monday.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly found the agency does not have "substantial independent authority" so it is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

The decision means the White House does not have to disclose documents relating to its troubled e-mail system. That system developed problems that may have caused millions of White House e-mails to be unaccounted for.

Let me explain something to you folks.  I have been a Network Administrator for the better part of 15 years now, and I have NEVER had an instance where emails were simply "gone".  I've had hard drive failures, catastrophic disasters, and a number of other issues, but given an almost completely unlimited budget, I can set you up an email system that will archive every, single, email, document, spreadsheet, and more.  I can build an email system that will be almost bulletproof for less then $5,000, not including my time.  Give me a few extra thousand, some Cherry Coke Zero, and some Hot Pockets, and I'll build you a system that'll only go down if there's a MASSIVE power failure.

To claim that emails are "missing" is bullshit.  I've read up on the White House email system, and it's literally littered with mismanaged bullshit.  Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, etc?  Get rid of it.  If you can't function in a high available environment, you don't get to be in my server room.

Exchange is known for it's spectacular failures.  Sure, email servers can and do fail, but it's the recovery ability that sets my setup apart from their mess.  Perhaps the White House needs a part time IT guy who knows what the hell he's doing?

I'll even throw in my custom made active denial defenses. :)  It can't be that hard people.  I know I'm not the smartest IT guy on the planet.  There's GOT to be someone in the White House who's smarter then me right?  Right??

All I ask is that I get to play with some seriously cool military goodies, like flying an A-10 warthog, firing off a minigun, and let me take a look at our active camouflage systems.  Oh, and can I get a medical report saying that Janet Reno was BORN a woman?

Let me get those things, and I'll build you an email system that'll rival the ones that the major corporations use.
