Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. “If he [Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place,” said a US intelligence source.
Bush arrives in Britain today on the final leg of his eight-day farewell tour of Europe. He will have tea with the Queen and dinner with Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah before holding a private meeting with Brown at No 10 tomorrow and flying on to Northern Ireland.
The Special Boat Service (SBS) and the Special Reconnaissance Regiment have been taking part in the US-led operations to capture Bin Laden in the wild frontier region of northern Pakistan. It is the first time they have operated across the Afghan border on a regular basis.
The hunt was “completely sanctioned” by the Pakistani government, according to a UK special forces source. It involves the use of Predator and Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles fitted with Hellfire missiles that can be used to take out specific terrorist targets.
We should have been doing this constantly for the past 7 years. This is complete bullshit. It shouldn't be a "final attempt" before he leaves office, there should have been no stone unturned, no country not looked into, to get Bin Laden. This is the same type of half assed attempt like Bill Clinton did many times during the 90's. The only difference, is that Bush knows EXACTLY what Bin Laden is capable of.
The only glimmer of hope now is that even Afghanistan's president is wanting blood too:
Afghan President Hamid Karzai threatened Sunday to send Afghan troops after notorious Taliban leaders inside Pakistan in an angry warning to his eastern neighbor that he will no longer tolerate cross-border attacks.
The threat — the first time Karzai has said he would send forces into Pakistan — comes only days after a sophisticated Taliban assault on Kandahar's prison freed 870 prisoners, and six weeks after Karzai survived his fourth assassination attempt.
Karzai has long pleaded with Pakistan and the international community to confront tribal area safe havens, and U.S. officials have increased their warnings in recent weeks that the sanctuaries in Pakistan must be dealt with.
I want Bin Laden's head on a pike at the front of the White House lawn. I want his skin peeled off with a dull rock and shown in the Smithsonian for all to see what happens when you kill innocent people. I want his death broadcast on Pay Per View. I'm that dead serious about wanting this guy dealt with, and if Bush isn't working 24/7 to get him, then it speaks volumes about where his fucking priorities are.
