Democrats say the nation should be ashamed of its ban on gays serving openly in the military. It discourages qualified people from joining the ranks at a time when the armed forces are stretched by two wars, they say, and is degrading to those willing to serve their country.
So what have the Democrats done about it? Nothing, really.
Since taking control of Congress in January 2007, Democrats have not convened hearings on the matter or taken up legislation that would let gays serve openly, although most party members favor repealing the prohibition. Instead, Democrats have focused their efforts on bringing troops home from Iraq and other issues that have broad appeal among voters, such as lowering gas prices.
So, wait a minute. You mean to tell me that Democrats have decided to back down from a fight about what they believe to be righting a wrong, and have chosen instead to go after something that's popular??
I am SHOCKED that Democrats would do such a thing!.....pfft...I almost said that with a straight face. Everyone knows that Democrats will talk the talk, but won't walk the walk on tough issues, and will only go after things that are popular.
Look at Iraq. There were literally DOZENS of Democrats who voted for, or approved the war in Iraq when we were running up to it because it was popular. When the war turned sour for most Americans, you started to see differing opinions from the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and other prominent Democrats.
Face it, most of them in Congress don't have a spine when it comes to these kinds of stances, and will do anything to remain in power.
