Senate Says McCain Is Qualified

The Senate on Wednesday delivered its judgment on a constitutional question involving one of its own and formally declared that Senator John McCain is eligible to be president — at least from a citizenship perspective.

Weighing in on an arcane question that has arisen because of Mr. McCain’s birth in the Panama Canal Zone, the Senate without opposition approved a non binding resolution recognizing that Mr. McCain is a natural-born citizen.

Among the basic qualifications the Constitution lays out for president is that the person be a natural-born citizen, a phrase not defined and one that has been subjected to various interpretations.

Was this REALLY an issue here?  Any military base around the world is considered American soil.  Any person born on that base is thus, an American citizen.

But as a side note, what the hell is up with Congress and their "non binding" resolutions?  If it's "non binding" then why waste your time with it at all?  Congress has been wasting time for decades on frivolous things and the country needs true leadership in terms of fighting off large spending, national defense, and other important issues.

Don't waste my time Senators, or your political opponents will notice when you come up for re-election.
