To require the President to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day.
That's right, Obama wants "change" and he has no problem spending YOUR money on the poor to help them be less poor. I'll bet my last dime that it'll go towards food and a few minor projects, and nothing more.
Let's face it, giving people food and money doesn't solve poverty and it doesn't help boost our image abroad. Just look at the Palestinians. We've given them BILLIONS of dollars in aid, and what do we get in return? Hatred. When we stop the aid, what happens? They threaten even more.
Helping the poor is a feel good, knee jerk reaction that doesn't get to the root cause of poverty. Here's how you get to the root cause of poverty:
In the mean time, Obama wants the United States to pay for the world's poor, while we're massively in debt, yet, he won't ask China or Russia, or Saudi Arabia to kick in a few bucks. In fact, the World Food Program has complained that the amount of aid from Middle Eastern countries, the ones with vast wealth coming in from oil revenues, have provided a "nearly invisible amount" of aid.
Yep, but that's ok, because the US will pick up the tab right? Obama wants us to spend billions more on aid that will do nothing.
Let's see here, we've spent billions of our hard earned tax dollars feeding the poor for the better part of several decades now, and what have we accomplished? Even by Obama's own words, there's still "extreme global poverty", so how is this new, amazing amount of money going to be any different? Anyone? I'd love to hear how this time "it's going to be different" and how it'll "change the world" and other campaign slogan like sentences from the Obama camp.
Simply put, I'm not so sure on the whole idea of just giving away our hard earned money when it could be better used to get us out of debt, off of foreign energy sources, and help out our own people first.
