What's Wrong With The School System

Need a good example of what's wrong with our school systems?  Take a look here:

Fulton County schools want to pay students to stay in school a little longer.

Forty students from Creekside High and Bear Creek Middle schools in Fairburn will be the first to try the "Learn & Earn" program, where students will get paid to attend after-school tutoring programs.

Students will make approximately $8 an hour, and be eligible for bonuses if their grades improve, said Kirk Wilks, district spokesman. The initial students are in the eighth and 11th grades.

There's so much wrong with that, my mind is racing.

First off, these kids aren't in the top of their class.  What are the smart kids getting for paying attention in school?  A big, fat "fuck you" to their faces.  So the dumber or lazier kids get a break and get to get paid for doing the same thing that other kids are doing for free?  Their "reward" for paying attention in school is a better paying job later in life.  Their "reward" is not being 30 years old asking people if "they want fries with that".

The simple fact is that we have smart people and dumb people in this country.  Every country is the same way.  If you don't pay attention in school, you won't have a degree/diploma, and you'll have lower paying jobs.

They're also enabling kids who aren't trying hard enough.  It'll only encourage a "what will you do for me" attitude in these kids later in life.  It's also telling smarter kids that their efforts were in vain and that if you slack off a bit, you can get into this program and get paid for doing the same thing they've been doing all along.

Smart kids need to be rewarded and lazy or dumb kids need to be shown the error of their ways.  If they continue down the road of failure, then they will just have to accept their lot in life in lower paying jobs and living in shitty apartments.  It's a harsh reality, but no employer is going to promote people who aren't go-getters, and this program is exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time.
