Gruesome Anniversary

God how I'm getting old.  I vividly remember this day and it's aftermath.  The 1986 Space Shuttle explosion in which 7 astronauts died was splashed across the front page of every newspaper in America for a long time afterward.

What's worse, is the distinct possibility that some of them did not die in the explosion, and could have certainly been living and breathing the 2 minutes and 45 seconds it took for them to plummet back to the earth and slam into the ocean at over 200mph.  To give you an idea of the impact, above certain heights, when you hit water, it's as hard as hitting concrete.  Which is why you see suicide jumpers off of bridges having broken bones and that's usually how they die.  Here's some more details about that fateful day
