Oh good, Ahmadinejad says that the nuclear issue is "closed". Well I guess we'd all better pack up and go home then.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Tuesday that "the nuclear issue of Iran is now closed," and indicated that Tehran will disregard U.N. Security Council resolutions imposed by "arrogant powers" and demanding suspension of its uranium enrichment.
If this guy didn't have the history that he does, I'd ask "is this guy for real"?
Now he's placing his closest allies in Russia and China with the now unenviable task of trying to defend Iran's actions. They are openly stating they won't adhere to the UN's resolutions (similar to what Saddam did over the course of 12+ years), so what are we to do?
Well, we impose sanctions, CRIPPLING sanctions. Iran needs to be slapped back into reality. They need to see their populace rioting in the streets because they don't have the normal day to day goods and services that they are used to.
This could actually be a really good thing for us. Put forth additional sanctions, watch the Iranian people get very upset, and then vote their leaders out of office.
Iran is already cracking down on young adults who don't like the theoretical ways of "old Iran", so it's completely within reason that sanctions would work best in this situation. But I'm not talking about simple "no more Ferrari's for you!" type of sanctions.
I'm talking about blockades of imports and exports to the country. I'm talking about halting oil shipments to and from the country. Yes, it will raise the price of gas and oil significantly, but that will also hurt Russia and China and that's something they cannot afford. They'll have back door meetings to get the Iranians to come to their senses.
We've been dealt an Ace people, let's play it right.
