Clinton Takes Her Lead To Double Digits

Hillary Clinton has widened her lead over Barack Obama into double digit territory 33-21%. That's an alarming lead for the Obama camp. They have got to come out with some real substance if they plan on overcoming a lead like that. It's not to say that it's impossible, it's just going to be very difficult.

Here's some things that Obama can do to raise his popularity.

Come out with a plan. People like someone who's personable. But they like someone more who's personable AND has an idea on how they want to run this country. Healthcare, War, Welfare state issues are all things that Democrats look for in a candidate (notice how I put a little zing in there? :) ) If Obama just makes grandiose speeches and doesn't back it up with real substance, he faces an uphill battle that will soon become straight up.

Work well with others. Obama needs to show that he's willing to work with rival Democrats AND Republicans. It can be small stuff, but it will show on the fence voters that he's willing to build bridges rather than play partisan politics.

Use the Internet better. The Internet is an invaluable communications medium that if harnessed right, can bring someone from relative obscurity, to the nations spotlight (See Ron Paul for an example). Recently, the Obama folks got a little heavy handed with a guy who was running a MySpace site dedicated to Obama. It was a very supportive website and if the Obama camp played it right, they could have had thousands of additional supporters. Instead, they got heavy handed and alienated the very people trying to help get him elected.

If these things are followed carefully, I'm willing to bet that Obama can actually beat Hillary for the nomination. He certainly speaks well, he just needs to add a bit more to put him over the top. It's not to say that people like him more then her. It's more that people like him a little but hate her more. Play those two characteristics together and you have a Democratic nomination.
