Now, I want to be clear here. The Constitution specifically bans "cruel and unusual punishment". So we should always adhere to that. However, the Constitution DOESN'T prohibit a death sentence for rape of a child. Louisiana's State Supreme Court upheld that sentence for that crime today.
I'm all for a death sentence for child rape, but let's take this a bit slower shall we? It's a very slippery slope when you start executing people for crimes other then ones that result in the death of others. We need to define what crimes could and should be eligible for a death sentence. Good examples are:
Treason
Espionage
Forcible Rape of a child
and others. These crimes effect society as a whole and should be put at the top of the list of death penalty cases if we're going to execute for crimes other than murder.
