With the unfolding events at Virginia Tech, I thought I'd comment on things that we have to deal with when we have an open society.
When you have a society where anyone can come and go as they please, you have open targets for someone with a chip on their shoulder or a screw loose in their heads. I know I've walked into buildings after shootings and thought: "if I were a gunman, I'd go here and here and here". That's the problem, we have liberty in exchange for security. You can walk anywhere you'd like in America freely and yet, you could do the same with a weapon hidden and kill unsuspecting people.
We'll always have mass murders such as this with the society we live in. It's inevitable. The problem is that you'll soon see people come out of the woodwork asking for further restrictions on guns regardless of if this person got their gun legally or not. You'll see heightened security at various campus' around the country that will do no good, and you'll only be trading liberty for security.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather have the liberty.
