China is set to surpass the US at the top polluter in the world because of it's bustling economy and record growth. Here's the kicker though: Even though they signed the Kyoto treaty, they are exempt from it's rules because it is a "developing country"?
Excuse me? China? They've been around for thousands of years, they are just as modern as the US in many areas, so why is it that they get to skirt the rules and the US wouldn't if it was a signatory to the Kyoto treaty?
So when is Greenpeace and other environmental groups going to protest China over their pollution? China certainly won't give a shit about those groups, but you won't hear from them anyways. They love to bash America over just about every possible issue, but they won't take those same concerns to other countries like China and Russia because they know those countries won't care. They think that American politicians are weak enough that they might cave.
Where the problem really lies for China is that they have over 1.5 billion people and they are growing almost exponentially. Problems such as pollution, over crowding, massive inflation, and others are going to sneak in over the next several years and China will then have problems that environmentalists have nightmares about.
