50-48 was the vote to keep the timeline for keeping troops in Iraq. However, President Bush has already said that he intends to veto that bill. For those of you who don't know the American political system (I have many international readers), if the President vetoes a bill, Congress can override the President with a 2/3rds majority vote.
If they cannot get that majority, then the bill fails and they have to go back to the drawing board. However, with as long as it takes to get a bill in place, President Bush will have been out of office for a while by the time it comes back around. It's all about doing what's right, rather then what's popular.
