While we have the usual rantings of a mad man from President Ahmadinejad, it is interesting that Iran has chosen the route of partially cutting off UN cooperation. Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki even spoke these poetic words:
"Choosing the path of confrontation ... will have its own consequences," he said without elaborating.
It's almost like they have the three stooges making international policy making decisions for them. I think they've managed to go down a road where they think that if they reverse course, they will lose face. While technically true, they don't seem to mind if other world leaders lose face on various other issues. Pride is what is the biggest thing in their way right now. A little humility will go a long way. We've all had to back down from things from time to time, it's now Iran's turn to back down. They are painting themselves into a corner so deeply, it will make even their staunchest ally think twice before dealing with them.
Economic sanctions, arms embargoes, bank accounts frozen, they need to take a look at their economy and see just how much they are willing to put up with before the cost becomes too great. People will start losing their jobs, government services will grind to a halt, and the Iranian public will soon tire of dealing with hardships for a nuclear program for "peaceful" purposes.
Israel's not a threat, the US is not a threat as long as they stop supporting the insurgency in Iraq. But until they come to this conclusion themselves, they will face further and further isolation until one day, it all collapses around them.
