2003 Iran Offer Clear As Mud

So on one hand, we have people who say that Iran offered up an unbelievable deal to us in the beginning of the Iraq war. No nuclear program, no terrorist support, and recognition of Israel. Sounds too good to be true? It may have been false. While Ms. Rice's statement of she "doesn't remember" such an offer sounds suspect, the statement of "But I think I would have noticed if the Iranians had said, 'We're ready to recognize Israel,"' Rice said. "I just don't remember ever seeing any such thing." is quite telling.

If Iran did make such an offer, it would be unprecedented. What would Iran have to gain from such an offer? They were supposedly offering everything on a silver platter and didn't ask for really much in return, so that makes it sound more and more like a false report. Who knows though? If such an offer had been made and was rejected, there'd better be a damned good reason for it. If you can get peace, true peace, from an enemy without firing a shot, you have to at LEAST investigate it.
