Barack Obama's triumph over Hillary Clinton triggered jubilation among his relatives in Kenya, hope among people around the world-and a few questions about he actually stands for.

Many expressed optimism Wednesday that a November victory by Obama-who has relatives in Africa and childhood friends in Asia-would mark a major shift from the deeply unpopular policies of the Bush administration.

In Kenya, home to Obama's family on his father's side, the Kenya Times newspaper devoted its front page to the story, under the headline "Obama makes history."

"I've just watched him on television, and as a family we are very happy. Really, it is something that is a trendsetter," the politician's uncle, Said Obama, told The Associated Press from the port city of Kisumu in western Kenya.

In Mexico City, hairdresser Susan Mendoza's eyes lit up when she learned Obama had clinched the nomination.

"Bush was for the elite. Obama is of the people," she said.

The excitement was less about Obama's foreign policy-which remains vague-than a sense that his victory marks a historic moment.

Michael Cox, a professor of international relations at the London School of Economics, said Obama's win "has sent out a lot of positive signals around the world."

"He has a very appealing persona-elegant, fluent, strings lots of sentences together into paragraphs," Cox said. "But in terms of (his) actual policies towards the Middle East, Iraq, Iran, China, Europe-actually, we don't know."

That uncertainty did little to dampen enthusiasm for Obama.

The German government's coordinator on U.S. relations, Karsten Voigt, said many Germans "find (Obama's) mixture of Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy very attractive."

But not all are excited about Obama. The Pakistani's are understandably nervous about Obama's tough talk about Al-Qaeda:

However, Obama has made himself unpopular in Pakistan by saying the United States should act alone on information about terrorist targets within the country's national borders, leading some to believe he will be worse for the country than Bush.

"Obama has threatened attacks against us even before becoming the president, and he will be more dangerous compared to Bush," said Ibrar Ahmad, 34, a lecturer at the Government College in Multan.

Hey, I got an idea Ahmad, how about you guys work with us to get Al-Qaeda and you don't have to worry about American weapons raining down on your heads? If you sympathize or support Al-Qaeda, you're a target. If Obama backs up those words with actions, there's at least one thing him and I can agree upon. Although there's a laundry list of other things I completely disagree with him about.

Ahmadinejad's Confused

Iran expects a "different approach" from the next US president, whoever wins the November elections, President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad said in an interview published in Italy Wednesday. "Whoever wins the elections, I'm sure that the United States will change, it will have a different approach," the Iranian leader told the Italian daily La Repubblica. "The United States will have a reduced sphere of influence in the world," he predicted, adding: "The new president will have to respond to the real demands of the American people: 40 million American citizens do not have health insurance, the victims of the New Orleans hurricane still have no homes." Even if it's Obama, the tactics might change, but the goal remains the same: "There's no greater threat to Israel or to the peace and stability of the region than Iran," he told the powerful pro-Israel lobby, the American Israel Public Affairs Council (AIPAC). "The danger from Iran is grave and real and my goal will be to eliminate this threat," he said, adding loudly to add emphasis that he would "everything" to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. "The Iranian regime supports violent extremes. And challenges across the region. It pursues a nuclear capability that could spark a dangerous arms race," he told AIPAC's annual meeting in Washington. Unfortunately, I keep thinking about Jimmy Carter's "approach" to the Iranians, and if Obama doesn't match force with words, he's going to be looked upon as a loser just like Jimmy was. Freedom Of Speech....For Democrats

I'm a bit confused. How come a fictional movie about the assassination of George W. Bush gets made and published onto DVD, but when someone does an art exhibit about the assassinations of Obama and Clinton, it's shut down?

This morning, a Boston-born performance artist, Yazmany Arboleda, tried to set up a provocative art exhibition in a vacant storefront on West 40th Street in Midtown Manhattan with the title, "The Assassination of Hillary Clinton/The Assassination of Barack Obama," in neatly stenciled letters on the plate glass windows at street level.




By 9:30 a.m., New York City police detectives and Secret Service agents had shut down the exhibition, and building workers had quickly covered over the inflammatory title with large sheets of brown paper and blue masking tape. The gallery is across the street from the southern entrance to The New York Times building.

The police officers declined to answer any questions, and at first would not permit reporters to speak with Mr. Arboleda, who was wearing a black T-shirt and making cellphone calls from inside the makeshift gallery.

Later, Mr. Arboleda, who is 27, said in an interview: "It's art. It's not supposed to be harmful. It's about character assassination - about how Obama and Hillary have been portrayed by the media." He added, "It's about the media."

Mr. Arboleda said the exhibition was to open on Thursday and run all day.

The interview was abruptly ended as Mr. Arboleda was led off to the Midtown South police precinct station for what he called an interrogation.

I'd honestly like an answer to this. When protestors talk about George Bush with such venom, it's ignored except the usual "keep an eye for someone who doesn't belong" type of thing. But, turn the tables, and it's shut down.

Something doesn't smell right.

Nancy Pelosi Is So Brave!

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that the Democratic presidential race is over, and it's time to rally around the party's nominee.

"Running for President is not for the faint of heart. This is very difficult, and people have to unwind from it in their own time, but I think the message was clear last night. The people have spoken, the elections are over for the nomination. Barack Obama is the nominee of the Democratic party," Pelosi said.

The California congresswoman, who remained neutral throughout the primary season, said Senator Hillary Clinton should be able to take some time before formally conceding - but stressed the party's need to shift its focus to the general election.

Asked about a Friday deadline she and other party leaders set for uncommitted superdelegates, Pelosi said it's time for those undeclared party officials to get behind Obama: "Now it's time to rally around that person and attribute to him all that goes with being - carrying the banner of the Democratic party and all the dignities that go with it."

Wow, to be that brave to step forward and say "Obama is our guy" AFTER the nomination has been clinched must be so great. How would anyone else have the intestinal fortitude to stick their political neck out and make such a bold statement?

Face it, she's a coward, just like every other "fence sitter" out there in the Democratic party. They waited for a clear winner to emerge and that's why you saw a huge number of Clinton supporters move over to Obama. They're fair weather friends and want to be seen with a winner.

How is that fight against "the culture of corruption" coming Miss Pelosi?

It's Obama

Well, it seemed like a mathematical certainty, but Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee.

In what he called a "defining moment for our nation," Sen. Barack Obama on Tuesday became the first African-American to head the ticket of a major political party.

Obama's steady stream of superdelegate endorsements, combined with the delegates he received from Tuesday's primaries, put him past the 2,118 threshold, CNN projects.

"Tonight we mark the end of one historic journey with the beginning of another -- a journey that will bring a new and better day to America," he said.

"Tonight, I can stand before you and say that I will be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States."

Obama's rally was at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota -- the same arena which will house the 2008 Republican National Convention in September.

Even though Obama got the needed delegates to win, the denial in the Hillary camp is in full swing:

Speaking in New York, Sen. Hillary Clinton, congratulated Obama for his campaign, but she did not concede the race nor discuss the possibility of running as vice president.

"This has been a long campaign, and I will be making no decisions tonight," she said.

Making decisions about what? You lost. Your opponent got past the threshold he needed to secure the nomination. There's no decision to be made by you, it was made for you by the voters and the superdelegates.

Hillary Clinton: You lose.

God it feels good to say that. I've got half a chubby here. :) Of course, given the "hold my nose" contest, I'd choose Obama before Hillary any day. We can scream at one another about a lot of issues, but I simply can't have a lying, cheating, do-anything-to-win, politician in the White House.

Personally, I think we're looking at the 1992 Presidential election all over again. A relatively young, charming Democrat, coming in after many years of a Republican president. I think McCain is going to have a tough time campaigning this summer.

Obama Has Won

I'm still waiting for confirmation about this, but Fox News is reporting that Barack Obama has exceeded the amount of delegates he needs to clinch the Democratic nomination:

Barack Obama has reportedly clinched the Democratic nomination, but South Dakota and Montana voters will technically have the last word in this hard-fought, historic primary race.

Voting in the two states wraps up the marathon primary season. Montana rounds out the race when polls close at 10 p.m. ET, exactly five months after Obama wowed the political establishment with his lead-off Iowa caucus victory. South Dakota polls close an hour earlier.

Obama aides expect to do well in both states, and recent polls have favored the Illinois senator in Montana - but since the states together are only worth 31 delegates, far more attention was paid Tuesday to the avalanche of superdelegates that supposedly steadily fell into Obama's camp throughout the day.

The Associated Press declared late Tuesday afternoon that based on private superdelegate endorsements that have not yet been announced, Obama clinched the nomination. It takes 2,118 delegates to win, and the AP reported late in the day that he has 2,123.

If confirmed, then the race begins.

This Ought To Piss Off Liberals

Commentary - Peter Schweizer: Conservatives more honest than liberals?

The headline may seem like a trick question - even a dangerous one - to ask during an election year. And notice, please, that I didn't ask whether certain politicians are more honest than others. (Politicians are a different species altogether.) Yet there is a striking gap between the manner in which liberals and conservatives address the issue of honesty.

Consider these results:

Is it OK to cheat on your taxes? A total of 57 percent of those who described themselves as "very liberal" said yes in response to the World Values Survey, compared with only 20 percent of those who are "very conservative." When Pew Research asked whether it was "morally wrong" to cheat Uncle Sam, 86 percent of conservatives agreed, compared with only 68 percent of liberals.

Ponder this scenario, offered by the National Cultural Values Survey: "You lose your job. Your friend's company is looking for someone to do temporary work. They are willing to pay the person in cash to avoid taxes and allow the person to still collect unemployment. What would you do?"

Almost half, or 49 percent, of self-described progressives would go along with the scheme, but only 21 percent of conservatives said they would.

Well liberals, what do you think? Are you more dishonest then conservatives as a general stereotype? Sure, you'll probably send me hatemail about how Republicans are touting family values and then they are caught up in a prostitution ring, but tell me this, are you more or less honest about things asked in the above survey?

Sometimes it's necessary to take a hard look at yourself and change the things you don't like. There are things about me I don't like, and I do try to change them, but one thing you've NEVER caught me doing, is denouncing someone for something I do, whether it's legal or not.

Hillary About To Concede

Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

The former first lady was not ready to formally suspend or end her race in a speech Tuesday night in New York City. But if Obama gets to the magic number of delegates, 2,118, she was prepared to acknowledge that milestone, according to aides who declined to be identified.

Obama effectively secured the magic number Tuesday, based on a tally of pledged delegates, superdelegates who have declared their preference, and another 15 superdelegates who have confirmed their intentions to The Associated Press.

It also included delegates Obama was guaranteed as long as he gained 30 percent of the vote in South Dakota and Montana later in the day.

She HAS to know she has such an extremely limited amount of chances to still get the nomination. Obama has basically clinched it, and if the nomination were to be awarded to Hillary (a VERY slim chance), there would be such revolt in the Democratic party, that John McCain would probably win by a large majority.

While I do believe that Obama does have a decent shot and will most likely be the new President, I can't help but wonder what's going on with John McCain's campaign. It seems lately he's been preoccupied with denouncing Obama attacks.

What's worse for Hillary is that she made several key mistakes during her campaign that taken as a whole, did undermine her "credibility" with voters.

Of course, NOW she says she's "open to being Obama's VP".

Like that's really going to happen. She's said too many spiteful things about Obama, and if I were him, I'd kindly tell her to go fuck off once the nomination was secured.

I'd be curious though on how Obama plans on dealing with guys like Ahmadinejad:

"I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene," Ahmadinejad said.

"Today, the time for the fall of the satanic power of the United States has come and the countdown to the annihilation of the emperor of power and wealth has started," the hard-line president said.

It's almost like he's ASKING to be assassinated by the Israeli's or removed from power by Iranian officials.

What I'd like to know is, why are we taking shit from a country that openly supports terrorists and is seeking a nuclear program?

Incoming Iranian parliamentary speaker, Ali Larijani, spoke to Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh Tuesday morning and expressed faith in Hamas's regime in the Gaza Strip, Army Radio reported.

"If you keep up the resistance you will succeed in being victorious," Larijani told Haniyeh.

In response, Haniyeh asserted that "[Hamas] will never stop battling the Zionist enemy."

Remember when Bush said that we wouldn't make a distinction between terrorists and those who sponsored them? What the fuck is going on with the CIA? Aren't they supposed to be able to subvert idiotic regimes like this? Shouldn't this be cake work for them?
