Worst Person In The World: John McCain

Oh Keith Olbermann, you are always welcome here with your idiotic rants and constant misleading stories about various topics.  It gives me new material every time you open your mouth, and you do not disappoint again:

 

Wow, you'd think with a statement like "Republicans booing" that everyone was against John McCain's statement right?  Well unfortunately for Olbermann, that's not quite the case.  Take a look:

 

 

You can clearly hear cheers as well as booing across the board here.  I'd say it's about a 50/50 split on the cheers/booing front.  But Olbermann doesn't make you think that with his rant.  He misleads people into thinking that the audience almost universally boos McCain's statement.

Look at how enthusiastic Olbermann looks in his video, I think he pissed himself a little bit.

But that's not to say that I agree with McCain's statement 100%.  American's didn't want to get involved in the war in Europe until the attacks of Pearl Harbor.  Once that happened, everyone screamed for blood revenge, just like they did after the 9/11 attacks.

However, the difference there was that we went in in WWII and decimated the enemy without piss ant backstabbing from politicians and parts of the public who claimed that we "deserved" the Pearl Harbor attack or how it was an elaborately staged plan by the Roosevelt administration to get at Japan's oil or some other such nonsense.

But, McCain is right on one front, isolationism and appeasement simply DO NOT WORK.  They only allow that person or regime to gain power and when they turn their attention to you, then you have a bigger problem on your hands then when it was a growing threat and could have been easily taken care of had you had the backbone to deal with it then instead of now.

Just ask Bill Clinton about Osama Bin Laden and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Iran's reformers to U.S.: Let's talk

Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and Nobel Peace Prize-winner Shirin Ebadi are among several key Iranian public figures saying that only direct, unconditional talks with the US can ease spiraling tensions.

I don't think we're ready for that.  There is two conditions that I have that are completely non-negotiable:  Support for Hezbollah and the insurgents in Iraq, and the enrichment of uranium at their nuclear facilities.

I certainly would be willing to listen to some of their demands as well before talks begin.  I certainly would be happy to speak to anyone who in all honesty extends their hand in friendship, however with deaths of US soldiers being planted firmly at the doorsteps of Iran, no amount of public speaking will make me want to extend our hand back until that stops.

Hezbollah must be destroyed as a goal of any talks.  Their existence is not going to help anyone on either side of the table.

Banks, U.S. near deal on mortgages

The Bush administration and the mortgage industry, trying to combat a massive wave of foreclosures, are hammering out a proposal to temporarily freeze interest rates on certain troubled subprime mortgages. If adopted, it would be the biggest action taken to cope with the unfolding crisis.

I certainly don't have a problem with everyone getting their knuckles rapped for this idiotic mess that everyone agreed upon when the times were better, but I certainly do NOT want to see people start to get help on their mortgages like Hillary Clinton suggested earlier this year.

In fact, just yesterday, I got a piece of junk mail from Countrywide trying to get me to refinance my home at some ridiculous rate of 6.5% and some other exotic fine print came along with it.

So I doubt that these people are learning a valuable lesson here.

An estimated 2 million of those initial low, teaser rates are scheduled to reset to much higher levels by the end of next year, pushing the payment on a typical mortgage from $1,200 per month to $1,550, an increase of $350. The concern is that many homeowners will not be able to meet the higher payments, triggering hundreds of thousands of defaults.

Sometimes people need to lose to learn.  If you bail them out on the mortgage payments, then you run the risk of having people think "well, I can afford it in a few years when the rates go up again" and we'll be right back where we started from.

God how I wish my mortgage was $1,550 a month.  That certainly would save me a few bucks a month. :)  However, since I do live in a slightly larger home, (4 bedroom, 3 bath if you must know), I had a plan from the beginning to make sure that if something catastrophic happened, I would still have a place to live.

If my wife or I were fired, had a medical disability, or anything else, we would be perfectly fine.

Perfect planning prevents piss poor performance.  Remember that people and you'll never run into issues like these people are right now.

Plus, with the glut of homes on the market, now is a great time to buy a home. :)  Price wars can work in your favor.

Biden: Impeachment if Bush bombs Iran

Yes, because we all know that Democrats are good at keeping their promises and
threats.

"If you're going to impeach George Bush, you better impeach (Vice President Dick) Cheney first," said Biden, again drawing applause.

What he's trying to say is:  I don't want "President Cheney", and so if Bush bombs Iran, I want them BOTH impeached, regardless of evidence of wrongdoing.

Sorry Biden, you can't have it that way, it's called the Constitution, and it spells out specifically what you can and cannot impeach for.  If you have evidence that Bush or Cheney has done something illegal, grow a pair and put forth the articles of impeachment.

Otherwise, you're simply doing political grandstanding that has as much clout as William Jefferson's integrity, or Hillary Clinton's honesty.

Religion Of Peace

I keep hearing how Islam is the "Religion of Peace", and yet, time and time again, we hear about people's feelings being hurt over seemingly minor things and they riot in the streets.

For example, a UK teacher in Sudan allowed her students to name a teddy bear
"Mohammed", and yet, she was arrested and people called for her execution.

Nevermind the fact that Mohammed is one of the most common names in the Middle East.  Nevermind that the students have said that the bear was named for one of them. 

You can't really blame the rest of the world for being suspicious of your religion if you have nutjobs who riot at even the most minor "insult".

When was the last time you saw mass Christian riots when a cross was put into a jar of piss?

When was the last time you saw Buddhists behead people when they saw Buddha statues in Chinese stores?

How about when the Taliban blew up Buddhist statues?  Did anyone riot in the streets, or behead someone?

No, you don't see that.  Why?  Because some of these people are either brainwashed or savages.

When someone from another religion does something horrible like say, Timothy McVeigh, they are shunned by the rest of the world and turned into authorities.  Why?  Because we know they're nutjobs and they shouldn't be out in society.

Muslims would be wise to do the same in their own communities more often.  It would certainly help their reputation around the world when it comes to them being the "Religion of Peace".

Hell Has Frozen Over

John Murtha has admitted that the surge is working.

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."

I think we all agree that the Iraqi's need to start getting on the ball, but this blanket admission that Bush was right and that the new tactics being pursued by General Petraeus is something that certainly won't go over well with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Wasn't it Harry Reid who said "the war in Iraq is lost"?

Oh yes, yes it was.

And to top that all off, Venezuelans are having mass protests against Hugo Chavez for his referendum to try to hold onto power.

And to top it all off, one of my former employers who was quite rude to me when I was employed there, is on the front page of MSNBC with a scathing report about them.

I'm so excited, I think I peed myself like an excited puppy. :)

Purported bin Laden message to Europe: Quit Afghan war - CNN.com

Oh Bin Laden must SERIOUSLY have lost his mind now.

In Thursday's message, the speaker claims sole responsibility for the September 11, 2001, attacks and accuses America's NATO allies of killing civilians in Afghanistan, where the country's Taliban rulers allowed al Qaeda to operate prior to 9/11.

"You didn't respect the rules of war and attacked and killed women and children on purpose," the speaker says.

Yes, let's talk about that for a moment shall we?  "Respecting the rules of war" means you don't put a 5 year old boy out front of your home and use him as a human shield as noted below:

 

Notice the lack of the "rules of war"?

Oh, and while we're talking about the "rules of war", they specifically state that civilians are to be left alone.  You know, civilians, like the ones who were in the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and those airplanes.

Or how about the embassy bombings?  Those were civilians who died as well.  Indiscriminate killing was the name of your game, but you didn't concern yourselves with the "rules of war" then did you?

In the message, bin Laden called on his followers to be loyal to the Islamic nation, not to individual leaders, groups, tribes or countries.

The tape marked the first time bin Laden spoke directly to the militants.

"Beware of your enemies, especially those who infiltrate your ranks," he said in Arabic.

"I advise myself and the Islamic nation not to follow individuals and countries," he said. "Everything should be seen in the light of Islam."

Meaning that leaders they thought they could count on are now turning their backs on Al-Qaeda after seeing what they truly are made of.

Simply put, most Muslims don't have a problem with America.  They generally are a peaceful religion, who has a small minority try to take everything literally and kill "infidels" across the board.

With an audio tape like this, it really says a lot about how things are going for Al-Qaeda and terrorism in general.  They are against the ropes and their support is dwindling quickly.

Otherwise, why would he issue warnings and tell people to stop fighting?

If he was winning, he'd say "See! I told you that my fight was with America, but you had to stick your nose in it", but he doesn't.

He says "come on guys, stop it!  I'm seriously getting mad now!".  Like a bully in a schoolyard fight who's getting his ass kicked because he picked on the wrong kid.

Well you started the fight, I want it ended with your head on a pike in front of the White House.

Venezuela Threatens to Expel US Official

Isn't this one of those "false flag" operations that truthers and Democrats love
to point out for politicians to maintain their grip on power?

If so, why aren't more people pointing out the sheer insane level of coincidence here that because Chavez's referendum is split 50/50, that he wouldn't try to do something to tilt public opinion towards his camp?

Venezuela threatened Wednesday to expel a U.S. Embassy official for allegedly conspiring to defeat a referendum championed by President Hugo Chavez, accusing the diplomat of plotting to sway public opinion.

The allegation comes ahead of a fiercely contested referendum on reforms that would allow Chavez indefinite re-election and help him establish a socialist state in Venezuela. Sunday's vote has generated large pro- and anti-Chavez rallies and Chavez kept the rhetoric high on Wednesday by repeating his charge that Washington is plotting to kill him.

In Caracas, Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro showed state television a document that he claimed was written by the unnamed embassy official and was to have been sent to the CIA as part of a plan to help ensure that Venezuelans vote against the proposed constitutional overhaul.

So it's all those mysterious CIA guys that are out to get him right?  CNN/CIA/etc, are all conspiring to get Chavez.

Let's face it, who gave a rat's ass who this guy was, let alone know who he was before he started running off at the mouth like a drunk cheerleader at a party?

He's simply trying to create a boogeyman to maintain his power indefinitely, and he's giving the thinly veiled notion that he should be able to run for office forever.

And how hard do you suppose it would be for him to rig these elections?  That's one of the reasons why we have a new President after two terms.

Now only if we can get Congress to do the same.

Duncan Hunter

I found this neat little clip with highlights of the Republican Debates, but my favorite point comes at 2 minutes into the video.

In it, Duncan Hunter says this in response to the question: How do you repair the image of America in the Muslim world?

Very simply, to the critics of America, I would say this:

When you were faced with disease and starvation, the Americans brought food and medicine.

When you had earthquakes and tsunamis and floods, the Americans came and helped you.

And when you were threatened from outside, the Americans left the safety of their own homes to come and defend you.

I will never apologize for the United States of America.

 

I got a little bit of a smile on my face when he said that.  It was a nice, subtle, politically correct way of saying "screw you if you don't like America.  After all we've done for you, your trying to knife us in the back won't go unheeded".

Let's see other Republican candidates say something as bold and truthful as that.

Better yet, let's see those spineless Democratic candidates say something like that instead of getting on all fours and trying to really kiss the ass of other, ungrateful countries and religions.

Good Lord People Are Dumb.

Clergy, civil rights and community leaders on Dayton's west side are so upset about losing a local supermarket that they're calling for a boycott of Kroger.

Reverend Jerome McCorry says if Kroger doesn't appreciate his dollar, he'll take it somewhere else.

Sounds pretty severe.  Kroger's must be doing something horrible right?

Kroger operations vice president Reuben Shaffer said at the meeting that deciding to close the store wasn't easy, but it hasn't been making money.

So Reverend McCorry is pissed that his grocery store is closing and threatening to boycott it because they aren't making money and can't afford to keep that store open?

Businesses don't owe you a store, as much as you'd like to think.  They are in it to make money, employ people, and do it in perpetuity.  If they can't, they simply close up shop and transfer or fire the workers.

Getting all uppity over it just makes you look like a whiner.

Turn the other cheek Reverend.

Well thank God that people are starting to get sick and tired of political correctness and telling "offended" people to take a flying leap.

In the wake of national media attention and furor, Lakota school officials announced this morning that the high school production of “Ten Little Indians,” that was canceled after complaints from a local NAACP official, will be performed.

There used to be a time in this country when the NAACP stood up for people who's rights were genuinely being trampled upon.  Now they appear to be nothing more then Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson wannabe's who are getting "offended" for no reason other then to keep their names in the paper.

Otherwise, people will forget about these groups because they AREN'T having their fundamental rights trampled upon and those same people will stop giving donations to these groups.

Hillary's Planting Questions Again

There's nothing wrong with the question, in fact, I think it's a good one, however, take a look at this:

Why, that's General Kerr's name on the Steering Committee Member's list for Hillary Clinton!

I don't particularly care about the question that General Kerr asked. If he served with honor, that's all I care about. I simply do NOT care that he's a gay man, that's his business, not mine.

However, I DO have a problem with these sneaky, underhanded tactics from the Clinton campaign to try to poison the election process.

If Hillary wants to have people's thoughts and feelings up for public scrutiny towards gays in the military, then she should have the guts to do it herself, not appoint someone to do it for her.

What we need in this country is a strong willed leader, not someone who's going to delegate responsibility for things to others. If you want to be the leader of the United States, you'd better come to the table with better personal integrity then that.

Of course, General Kerr denies it:

He mentions he does support her personally, but he fails to mention he's a member of a committee for her campaign. I think there's a problem here. He's not necessarily lying, but he's not being very forthcoming either.

In fact, CNN is already doing damage control.

Look for this election to get a lot nastier.

Venezuela Chavez: CNN may be instigating my murder

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Wednesday CNN may have been instigating his murder when the U.S. TV network showed a photograph of him with a label underneath that read "Who killed him?"

The caption appeared to be a production mistake -- confusing a Chavez news item with one on the death of a football star. The anchor said "take the image down" when he realized.

 

And yet, this guy wants to be President of Venezuela for life.  Sometimes it's best to take the medication your doctor gives you folks.  That way the "bogeymen" who are out to get you will go away.

Don't think Chavez will ruin Venezuela?  He's already asking for a 6 hour workday instead of an 8 hour one.  That in of itself will ruin businesses.

Keep going Hugo, the people of Venezuela will eventually tire of your bullshit and remove you from office, hopefully forcefully. :)

Iran to host militants for 'alternative' Mideast meet

Anyone else need evidence that Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism?

Everyone knows that Annapolis is about isolating Iran, and with Iran hosting a summit of terrorist groups, it's really an afterthought on what to do about their nuclear program:

Iran said on Tuesday that it had invited Palestinian militant factions to a meeting in Tehran aimed at countering a US-hosted Middle East peace conference seeking to kickstart the peace process.

"These groups are planning to come to Tehran within the next week or two and they are all the Palestinian groups that are struggling for the freedom of their land," government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham told reporters.

Iran is one of the most vocal backers of Palestinian militant groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad and pledged millions of dollars in 2006 to the then Hamas government crippled by a Western aid cut.

So "struggling for the freedom of your land" means putting bombs on city buses and in nightclubs?  You don't deserve "your land" if you resort to killing civilians indiscriminately.  But of course, that's not to say that Iran isn't trying to put up a tough guy image:

On Monday Ahmadinejad told Saudi King Abdullah in a telephone call that he "wished" the kingdom was not taking part in the peace conference.

Smells of a classic "divide and conquer" strategy that Iran is pulling.  We all know it's a bullshit lie because King Abdullah has pushed Bush to do something about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for years, and now that he gets a chance, he's going to say he "wished they weren't taking part"?

Bullshit.

Saudi holds over 200 militants, foils oil attack

Pay attention kiddies, I'm going to explain a concept called "cause and effect".

Saudi Arabia has arrested 208 militants who were plotting attacks on various bits of infrastructure, including oil ones, in the Kingdom.

Well, you'd think "that's great!", but you'd be missing the point.

In schools across Saudi Arabia, they are taught that the only way to solve a problem is through violence and blowing yourself up to take out people who are "less" Muslim then they are.

Now, if Saudi Arabia managed to crack down on THAT practice, they wouldn't have to deal with the militant problem later as these children grow up.

Also, if you try to attack facilities that are responsible for the vast majority of Saudi Arabia's economy, you can bet your sweet butt that you're going to be swiftly dealt with.

Now only if they'd stop releasing people who've "repented" and actually made them serve out their prison sentences, you'd see less of a problem then you do now.

It's not brain surgery here people.

Bill Clinton Flatly Asserts He Opposed War at Start - New York Times

Wow, the insane amount of bullshit this guy has coming out of him amazes me to this day.

During a campaign swing for his wife, former President Bill Clinton said flatly yesterday that he opposed the war in Iraq “from the beginning” — a statement that is more absolute than his comments before the invasion in March 2003.

Before the invasion, Mr. Clinton did not precisely declare that he opposed the war. A week before military action began, however, he did say that he preferred to give weapons inspections more time and that an invasion was not necessary to topple Saddam Hussein.

At the same time, he also spoke supportively about the 2002 Senate resolution that authorized military action against Iraq.

Advisers to Mr. Clinton said yesterday that he did oppose the war, but that it would have been inappropriate at the time for him, a former president, to oppose — in a direct, full-throated manner — the sitting president’s military decision.

Mr. Clinton has said several times since the war began that he would not have attacked Iraq in the manner that President Bush had done. As early as June 2004, he said, “I would not have done it until after Hans Blix finished the job,” referring to the weapons inspections there before the war.

Well unfortunately for Bill, we have the Internet, where every word you say is documented.  So, without further ado, let's take a look at Bill's words:

That's why I supported the Iraq thing. There was a lot of stuff unaccounted for. So I thought the President had an absolute responsibility to go to the U.N. and say, "Look, guys, after 9/11, you have got to demand that Saddam Hussein lets us finish the inspection process." You couldn't responsibly ignore [the possibility that] a tyrant had these stocks. I never really thought he'd [use them]. What I was far more worried about was that he'd sell this stuff or give it away.

On whether the Iraq war was worth the costs

It's a judgment that no one can make definitively yet. I would not have done it until after Hans Blix finished his job. Having said that, over 600 of our people have died since the conflict was over.

So 600 people dead and yet, Bill does nothing to counter Saddam.

Bill had no problem going to war with Saddam the second time around simply because he wasn't the one who was ultimately responsible for it. 

If the war went buttery smooth, he would claim he supported it all the way.

However, now that it's fashionable to oppose the war, he's got the nerve to say that he opposed it from the beginning.  There's not ONE shred of evidence to support that.  Not one quote, not one interview, nothing.

Even ABC News is seeing through his line of bullshit:

 

But then Bill makes another statement:

Mr. Clinton’s remark yesterday came in the context of opposition to Republican-backed tax cuts for wealthy Americans like himself, and how that loss of revenue affected financing for the military.

“Even though I approved of Afghanistan and opposed Iraq from the beginning, I still resent that I was not asked or given the opportunity to support those soldiers,” Mr. Clinton said.

Bill, you had 8 years in the White House to support the soldiers and what did you do in that time?  You gutted the military left and right.  You closed bases that put ancillary families out of work, decimated local economies, and made us more vulnerable to attack.

You had your chance Bill, and you screwed this country royally with your complete impotence to the threats from Saddam and Osama, and your slicing military budgets to the bone.

Save the lies for someone who had zero brain activity who might fall for it, there are those of us who know the truth and will gladly expose you and Hillary for it.

Celebrity Endorsements: Does Anyone Really Care?

Who knew Pat Sajak was so smart?

Putting those obvious benefits aside, the question remains: do these endorsements really translate into votes? Does anyone decide which candidate to choose based on the recommendation of a TV talk show host or a singer/actress? If any group of citizens is uniquely unqualified to tell someone else how to vote, it’s those of us who live in the sheltered, privileged arena of celebrityhood. It’s one thing to buy an ab machine because Chuck Norris recommends it (he’s in good shape, isn’t he?) or a grill because George Foreman’s name is on it (he’s a great guy, so it must be a great grill!), but the idea of choosing the Leader of the Free World based on the advice of someone who lives in the cloistered world of stardom seems a bit loony to me.

So far so good.

I suppose anything that gets people engaged in the political process is a good thing, but the idea that a gold record, a top-ten TV show or an Oscar translates into some sort of political wisdom doesn’t make much sense to me. Trust me, one’s view of the world isn’t any clearer from the back seat of a limo.

Exactly!  Celebrities who try to tell me how to think, vote, or worse, tell me how I'm a monster because I voted for one candidate over another, are not used to people telling them "no", and their snotty, holier then thou attitudes don't fly with regular Americans.

Perfect example:  John Kerry.  Celebrities tried to say how wonderful John was and how he was going to be the savior for America, and all they managed to do is turn people off to him.  There were other reasons why he lost, but they certainly didn't do him any favors.

NATO's new Afghan battleground: YouTube

Everyone knows that that Taliban, Al-Qaeda and other extremists have been using Youtube for a while now, and now CNN's starting to catch up to that fact.  However, that's not what I want to point out here.

Everyone has been accusing the US of misinformation about the war on terrorism, and now we have definitive proof of one of the things we've been claiming all along:  Children being used as human shields.

GRRR!!!

In my line of work (Senior Linux Administrator), there's always things you find in various software packages that you sit there and go "what the FUCK were these people thinking when they wrote this pile of garbage?!?"

Well, today was one of those days.  I found that there's a nasty little bug in Office 2007 that will save documents in a funny way that really screws with Samba.

If you'd go onto the Linux machine, you would see all of the user's documents.  However, when you went to their workstation, it would only show random documents, like say 1/3rd of their documents.

It makes for a nasty surprise when they try to do their jobs.

But alas, I was diligent and found the bug and fixed it.

Fucking Microsoft.

This is why I use open source programs for my day to day usage.

Anyways, I now have to run to my cousin's house to help with his wireless network, so I don't know if I'll be posting again tonight.

My God, I just wonder how the hell Microsoft got to be so rich without a lot more people wising up to the fact their flagship product sucks.

What's worse is that you feel like a complete idiot when you find the bug.  You think to yourself "there's no way it could be THAT dumb" and yet, there it is.

Granted I have a higher then normal IQ, but I assume that when someone's hired on at Microsoft, they are the smartest people in the field.  They should be doing LAPS around me and when I see this complete lack of craftsmanship, I think to myself "how do you keep your job if you're that incompetent".

Better yet, how is it that people from around the world with a little bit of free time on their hands can do a better job programming then a $300 billion dollar multi-national corporation?

A Message From A Future Democrat (8 Year Old Thanks Bush For $20K War Bill)

This is the kind of idiotic thinking ways of the people over at democratic underground.  It's one thing to teach your children proper values, it's quite another to exploit them for your own agenda.

Let's take a look at his ideals:

$20k is his estimate that's what it's going to cost his daughter to pay for the war in Iraq.

Fine, I won't argue that point, but let's see who's actually going to pay for it.

Since he's obviously a Democrat, he's probably going to indoctrinate her with the idea that the government should take care of everything in her life, so it's unlikely that she'll be employed.

If that's the case, then she won't pay taxes to pay for her share of the $20k.

You want to feel better about the money going out to the war in Iraq?  Send me a bill for $20k and let's be done with it.  I support the war in Iraq, and I have no problem paying my share.

But of course, if this young lady is indoctrinated with the thought of the government should take care of everything, not only is she NOT going to pay her fair share, she's going to COST more then she brings in.  Welfare, government grants, and other handouts are in her future if her daddy teaches her some of the values that Democrats hold near and dear.

But let's take a look at it from my angle.  Medicare and Medicaid are two of the biggest money pits in the government's budget.  I certainly am not using it, but previous generations are.  However, MY tax dollars are going for it as we speak.  How fair is that to me?  This guy is trying to play the "won't someone think of the children" angle, but he's trying to screw people of the current generation.

What about Universal Health Care that Democrats are pushing so hard for?  Oh that's right, they want to RAISE TAXES again to pay for it.  So not only am I supposed to pay for Medicare/Medicaid for previous generations, I'm supposed to pay for Universal Health Care for the lazy and uneducated in this country.  I'm supposed to feel sorry for third world corrupt nations who have their hand out for aid from us.  I'm supposed to support Darfur, the environment, and every other fucking issue of the day coming out of Hollywood, and to top it all off, even if I do all the above things, I'm STILL the "American asshole".

Simply because I'm hard working, financially successful, white American male, I'm the bad guy/boogeyman that everyone around the world hates.

Well if you don't like the way America does things, if you don't like the hand outs that are going on throughout the world from the US, then kindly go fuck yourselves and go ask Russia or China for the same things Americans give without question year after year.

Yes, I did put her up to this. The thing that really bothered me was after we were done she said "But I want to go to college."

I of course assured her that she would... But then I kinda go worried about it.

Not so much for her, but for all the other kids out there her age. How many of us are planning for their futures?

Bay State’s going slap-happy

Parents who spank their kids - even in their own homes - would be slapped by the long arm of the law under an Arlington nurse’s proposal to make Massachusetts the first state in the nation to outlaw corporal punishment.

tomorrow morning.

And you all wonder why kids are out of control lately.  There's no fear of "wait until your father gets home" anymore.  There's no dread that comes into their hearts when they hear that car pull into the driveway.

So they lip off, tell their parents to go fuck themselves, and parents simply take it.

You can't tell me you've never walked through a Target or a Wal-Mart and saw a child acting up and the parent doing nothing about it.

Society needs law and order and children need discipline when they get out of line.  If you don't give it to them, you're raising a whiny, self absorbed child who will have great difficulties in life later on when they try the same behavior in the workplace or out on their own.

So go ahead Massachusetts, pass the law, and show the rest of the nation what it means to throw your hands up in the air like a cornered Iraqi insurgent.

Albright Defends Clinton On Foreign Policy (But Doesn't Use The F-Word)

Madeleine K. Albright is going to the mat on behalf of Sen. Hillary Clinton - whom she's endorsed - after Clinton's claims about foreign policy experience were challenged by primary opponents. But the former secretary of state did not go as far as others in saying Clinton was the "face" of international affairs during his husband's administration.

"She will be ready from the very first day to lead our nation in a dangerous and complicated world, which is why I am supporting her candidacy," Albright said.

Yes, because let's take a look at Hillary's track record on foreign policy shall
we?  She was married to the President when Osama had Bill pissing himself and that ended all right didn't it?

Let's face it, Hillary has ZERO foreign policy experience and Albright's endorsement means exactly jack shit in this instance.

Even Barack Obama agrees with me on this one:

All of this was too much for Obama to ignore. Not buying the logic, he weighed in with his own assessment.

"If she wants to tout her experience of having visited countries, that's fine," the Illinois Senator said. "I don't think that Madeleine Albright would think Hillary Clinton was the face of foreign policy during the Clinton administration. But maybe she'll disagree with that."

Which Albright, to a certain extent, did. Though not going so far as to say Sen. Clinton formulated U.S. foreign policy for her husband, the former secretary of state did provide a list of the New Yorker's accomplishments in the field.

Huckabee: America Enslaved to Saudi Oil

I have a new found respect for Mr. Huckabee.  It's very rare for a politician, especially a Presidential candidate, to be so frank and honest, but here it is:

Consumers are financing both sides in the war on terror because of the actions of U.S. ally Saudi Arabia, Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Sunday.

The former Arkansas governor made the comments following what he suggested was a muted response by the Bush administration to a Saudi court's sentence of six months in jail and 200 lashes for a woman who was gang raped.

"The United States has been far too involved in sort of looking the other way, not only at the atrocities of human rights and violation of women," Huckabee said on CNN's "Late Edition."

"Every time we put our credit card in the gas pump, we're paying so that the Saudis get rich - filthy, obscenely rich, and that money then ends up going to funding madrassas," schools "that train the terrorists," said Huckabee. "America has allowed itself to become enslaved to Saudi oil. It's absurd. It's embarrassing."

Huckabee said "I would make the United States energy independent within 10 years and tell the Saudis they can keep their oil just like they can keep their sand, that we won't need either one of them."

I'm all for energy independence, but I'd like some hard, concrete plans on how to do it.

Speak louder Mr. Huckabee, I think other politicians need to hear this and address it.

Putin accuses US of undermining parliament polls

Sure, why not?  It's not like Russia has been undermining the US in any way shape or form. Nope, no siree bob!

It's not like Russia has:

Colluded with Iran over it's nuclear weapons program.

Conducted war games with China to "send a message" to us.

Had dissidents arrested or killed under mysterious circumstances.

Tried to lay claim to the Arctic's minerals even though a UN mandate says it's neutral.

Held Eastern European nations hostage over the price of oil during the winter time.

Conducted espionage against the US' military computer networks.

Tried to stay in power no matter what.

Gets all pissy when they are "insulted" yet turns around and spews out insults towards the US.

Joseph A. Palermo: Why Should Californians Fork Over 20 Electoral Votes to the Republicans?

Wealthy right-wingers from out of state are flooding California with cash to try to change the way the state's electoral votes are allocated. In time for the 2008 election (and thereafter) the Republicans want to snatch up at least 20 of California's 55 electoral votes in a new system that would replace the traditional winner-take-all method. As with past Republican shenanigans they intend to accomplish this feat by tricking the voters with a well financed, deceptively-worded ballot initiative.

Now let's just wait a minute here.  I seem to remember Democrats SCREAMING for a change in the Electoral College process for picking the President when they lost with Al Gore in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004.

So Republicans are trying to teach Democrats a lesson.  If you really want to have those changes that you so desire, you won't have a problem doing it in California right?

Why are Democrats so reluctant to give up California?  Because it's been a typical Democratic stronghold for decades now and they don't want to give up anything that might cost them votes.

But let's say that Palermo is right and that Democrats would be giving up "at least 20 electoral votes".  Do you know what that means?

That means that John Kerry lost the 2004 Presidential election 306 to 232.  That means that Al Gore lost the election 291 to 246.

But had the Electoral College rules been nationwide and in effect in 2000, Al Gore would be President.

But those rules weren't in play at the time. Why?  Because Democrats didn't think about it because they were too concerned about winning rather than "fairness".

The rules of the Electoral College have been in place for hundreds of years.  However, if Democrats truly were wanting the voice of the people to be heard and "every vote counted", they would have called for these changes years ago.

But now, when they are losing, they want to change the rules of the game.

Despite the theatrical hysterics from the author, this thing isn't on the ballot yet and may not even make it. Once voters are told that this would favor one political party over the other, support for it plummets. Californians take their initiatives seriously and, by and large get it right.
Republicans recalled Gray Davis??? Spare me the totally inaccurate rewriting of California electoral history. There have been 32 attempts to recall the Governor of California. Only one recall ever made it to the ballot--Gray Davis.

The Dems hold a seven point advantage in voter registration in California. There aren't enough Republicans to do anything on their own. And the result? 55.4% of CALIFORNIANS voted to recall Gray Davis. For the Recall, 62.1% of CALIFORNIANS voted for the two leading Republican candidates.

Gray Davis was a worthless bumbling bureaucrat who didn't listen to the wishes of the voters. He made a mess of the energy crisis, increased vehicle registration fees by 200% less than 30 days before the Recall, signed a bill that gave drivers licenses to illegals and had interfered with the Republican primary in 2002. Gray Davis was the only sitting Governor in California history to be recalled and he deserved to be put out on his ass.

See, told you so.  Hypocrisy at it's best.

Schwarzkopf & Gates on why we DIDN'T invade Baghdad in 91.

I respect General Schwarzkopf's opinion on military issues greatly, and I've always wondered why we didn't invade in 1991 during the first Gulf War.  Well here's your answer:

DE PALMA IRAQ FLICK BOMBS

IT'S hard for Hollywood pacifists like Brian De Palma to capture the hearts and minds of America if Americans won't see their movies.

While the public is staying away in droves from “Rendition," “Lions for Lambs" and “In the Valley of Elah," audiences are really avoiding “Redacted," De Palma's picture about US soldiers who rape a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, then kill her and her family. The message movie was produced by NBA Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who insisted on deleting grisly images of Iraqi war casualties from the montage at the film's end. Cuban offered to sell the film back to De Palma at cost, but the director was too smart to go for that deal.

“Redacted" - which “could be the worst movie I've ever seen," said critic Michael Medved -took in just $25,628 in its opening weekend in 15 theaters, which means roughly 3,000 people saw it in the entire country.

“This, despite an A-list director, a huge wave of publicity, high praise in the Times, The New Yorker, left-leaning sites like Salon, etc. A Joe Strummer documentary [of punk-rock band The Clash] playing in fewer theaters made more in its third week," e-mailed one cineaste. “Not even people who presumably agree with the movie's antiwar thesis made the effort to see it."

Well there's a number of problems here:

First off, American's can smell bullshit when they are near it.  For example, with recent violence levels dropping significantly, even Democrats and liberals are at a loss to try to argue that the "surge" didn't work.

They know when someone's lying to them, and they can see how liberal Hollywood is trying to bullshit them.

Secondly, no one likes an elitist who tells them how to think and vote.

When someone tells me they way I'm thinking is wrong and how they are right without giving me a reason for it, they are simply elitists who deserve neither the attention or the respect that their opinion would normally get.

Would you listen to me if I told you "you're wrong in every way and I'm right" and never offer you an explanation as to how I came to that conclusion?

Just because you know how to make a film, doesn't mean you know jack shit about international relations and politics.

Third:

No one likes to see a film badmouthing their country.  I don't care if you're from Iran, Canada or the US, no one likes their home country bashed, and that includes Americans.

Oh how I do enjoy when Hollywood elitists get a good slap of reality across the face.

Veterans struggle to transfer military skills

Veterans say it's difficult to go from a culture where the emphasis is on "we," as in the squad or platoon, to "me," as in a qualified applicant.

To tell you the truth, I'd rather have a veteran on my payroll then a non veteran.  And I'd rather have them say "we" instead of "me".  Here's why:

Veterans already know how to work as a team:

They know who has the skills necessary to complete a task, so they assign that task to that person and have complete faith that they'll get the job done.

A business, unless it's a one man operation, is a team effort.

Veterans know how to take and give orders:

They know how to take responsibility and effectively work with others, so why would you want to change that behavior?

They are responsible:

Generally speaking, every veteran I've ever met has been insanely responsible.  So when I need a task completed, I know that they'll do whatever it takes to get it done.  No whining, no pissy attitude, no excuses.

They are loyal:

Treat a vet with respect and dignity, and they'll generally retire from your company.  Who wouldn't want a loyal employee on their payroll?

All in all, you WANT a veteran on your team of workers for the above reasons and more.  Teamwork, responsibility, loyalty, these are all qualities that one looks for in an ideal employee.

Of course, I do enjoy this man's funny attitude:

"I wondered, 'How am I going to find a job shooting down airplanes?' But I had other skills," Glennwood McLaurin said.

Sure, unless you run a certain type of business, a lot of skills that veterans have won't translate well to civilian life, (I can't think of a lot of times I've needed someone who knows how to work an anti-tank weapon), but you can teach someone about a job or a task that needs to be done, but you can't teach responsibility, loyalty, and teamwork in a short amount of time.

Tell me you wouldn't hire a guy like this:

Six months before he left the Army, Darren Doherty started looking for his next job, sending out resumes and applying through the Internet. He earned an engineering degree from West Point and he was looking for a career in that field in his home state of Texas.

If you have a job opening, do yourself a favor:

Hire a vet.

Sarkozy tackles Hu on yuan and human rights

I guess French President Sarkozy is true to his word and is now becoming a good friend of the US.  He's pressing China to do more about being a responsible world player on the international stage.

Not that China's actually going to do anything about it though.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy brought his trademark directness to China on Monday, publicly urging President Hu Jintao to let the yuan rise more swiftly and cajoling Beijing to do more to respect human rights.

Hu listened impassively as Sarkozy, fresh from overseeing the signing of business deals worth nearly $30 billion, praised China but said it had to shoulder growing responsibilities on issues such as the environment and exchange rates.

I look at it this way, China is riding a massive economic period of time and they will subside just like we did after the "dot com" era that we enjoyed.

The only difference is China has pissed off a lot of people with their cavalier attitude towards product safety and dragging their feet on pressing matters like Iran's nuclear program.

Those two things will cause China grief for quite some time.  I know I have a bitter attitude towards China because of it.

EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson irked China with a warning that its reputation was at risk after a series of product safety scandals and that it must do more to tackle the problem.

Vice Premier Wu Yi, known as China's "Iron Lady", was upset by Mandelson's remarks, made at a conference in Beijing. "I am extremely dissatisfied," an angry-sounding Wu told reporters.

Well holy shit, let's give a rats ass about what Wu Yi has to say.  If she's "extremely dissatisfied" with it, then do something about the safety concerns, rather then trying to get all pissy about what people say about it.

1,500 Saudi militants go free after 'repenting'

So, let me get this straight:

A woman can be gang-raped in Saudi Arabia and be sent to jail and whipped for the circumstances of where she was and when, when she was attacked, but 1,500 militants who "repent" are allowed to get out of jail??

So those who are "true Muslims" are allowed to get out of jail even if they've killed someone or planned to kill people, but that "whore" who dared to be sitting in a car with a man who wasn't her husband is the bigger threat??

And these are our "allies" in the fight against terrorism.

I wonder how else they are "helping" us out in other areas.

China's ambitious plans in space - CNN.com

Well la-de-fucking-da.  The Chinese want to go to the moon.  Well it's only been like, what, 40 years since we've already done that??

Go ahead China, spend the money, do some kind of join Russian-Chinese moon colony all you want, but you'll find out a few things in the process:

1:  It's not as easy as it looks.  We did it simply because we had the drive and the intelligence to do it.  That's not to say the Chinese aren't smart, they just have a reputation on cutting corners and making cheap stuff, so I tend to feel sorry for the first couple of guys to go up.  Bring lots of duct tape boys, you're gonna need it.

2:  It's a lot more expensive then it looks.  Sure, China has a lot of money now, but with a population of almost 2 billion people, you'd think they'd want to spend the money on more pressing matters, but alas, they are wanting to have a "big dick" contest with the world.  Go for it fellas, let's see you wave it around.  American girls need a good laugh.

THIS is the insurgency?

Sometimes a little public humility is in order, and this is one of those times:

Soldiers manning a checkpoint near Baghdad stopped a wedding convoy to find that the purported bride and groom were wanted terror suspects, an Iraqi Defense Ministry official said Monday.

The Army set up the checkpoint last week in the Taji area, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) north of Baghdad.

The soldiers became suspicious of the convoy because its members -- save the "bride" -- were all male and because one of the cars in the convoy did not heed orders to stop, the official said.

Also, soldiers said, the people in the car seemed nervous and the groom refused to lift his bride's veil when soldiers asked him to, according to the official.

Chavez: Only a 'Traitor' Will Vote No

President Hugo Chavez warned his supporters on Friday that anyone voting against his proposed constitutional changes would be a "traitor," rallying his political base before a referendum that would let him seek unlimited re-election in 2012 and beyond.

Brandishing a little red book listing his desired 69 revisions to Venezuela's charter, Chavez exhorted his backers to redouble their efforts toward a victorious "yes" vote in the Dec. 2 ballot.

"He who says he supports Chavez but votes 'no' is a traitor, a true traitor," the president told an arena packed with red-clad supporters. "He's against me, against the revolution and against the people."

Isn't this the same kind of rhetoric that Democrats rallied against when Bush said similar things?

But yet, Chavez is the poster boy for people like Cindy Sheehan and others who hate Bush.

Chavez's opponents accuse him of concentrating power and seeking to be president-for-life like his close friend Fidel Castro of Cuba. Chavez insists he will only stay on as long as Venezuelans continue to vote for him.

"If you don't approve (the referendum), maybe we'll have time for a parachute jump in five years," Chavez, a former paratrooper, told the crowd. "But if you wish—if you approve the referendum—I will stay as long as God wills! Until the last bone of my skeleton dries out!"

Well say what you will about Bush, he's done in a little more then a year, what do you have to say about your little South American friend there?

Mortgage Failures Could Create Nightmare: Financial News

When I read about people who are facing down foreclosure on their homes, I tend to feel sorry for them a little bit.

When you buy a home, you think that this is going to be the place where you live for many years, or may even retire and die in.

But sometimes people get so over their heads, that I simply must ask what they were thinking when they bought it, like this guy:

When Domenico Colombo saw that his monthly mortgage payment was about to balloon by 30 percent, he had a clear picture of how bad it could get.

30%!?!?!  What the fuck kind of mortgage loan did he get??

His payment was scheduled to surge by an extra $1,500 in December. With his daughter headed to college next fall and tuition to be paid, he feared ending up like so many neighbors in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., who defaulted on their mortgages and whose homes are now in foreclosure and sporting "For Sale" signs.

Ok, so let's do some math real quick, a bump of 30% that's $1,500 means his monthly payment was $5,000 a month and now was going to be $6,500 a month.

At $5,000 a month, unless he got his loan through the Mafia or something, he bought roughly a $750,000 to $900,000 home.

Granted it's in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but I find it VERY hard to believe that this guy is living in a shack or a 2 bedroom condo for that price.  If he is, he should have laughed at the realtor for trying such shenanigans.

Colombo did manage to renegotiate a new fixed interest rate loan with his bank, and now believes he'll be OK -- but the future is less certain for the rest of us.

So he'll be alright simply because the bank knows that he's been making his payments and the extra will force him into foreclosure.

Serves the banks right for such blatant attempts to squeeze every dollar they can out of people.  But of course, Colombo should also get a nasty punishment too for having to little brain matter to understand that this can happen when you sign such exotic loans.

Banks count on that you'll move heaven and earth to keep your home and make the mortgage payments.  So they are more then willing to accept a few mortgage defaults to keep making money on higher interest loans.

There are even interest only loans.  Those are loans that you pay and you literally have paid for nothing but the privilege to live in the house....that's called rent folks.

If you really want a house, take my little formula and you'll never go wrong.  Take your gross, not net, income, including your spouses.  Multiply it by 3, and that's roughly how much home you can afford.

So say a young couple just starting out, together makes $40,000 a year.  They can afford roughly a $120,000 home.  Sure, they might be able to stretch it to $130 or $135, but I wouldn't go any further then that.

You stick to that formula and you won't have many problems if something catastrophic happens and you still need to make your mortgage payments.

"We haven't faced a downturn like this since the Depression," said Bill Gross, chief investment officer of PIMCO, the world's biggest bond fund. He's not suggesting anything like those terrible times -- but, as an expert on the global credit crisis, he speaks with authority.

"Its effect on consumption, its effect on future lending attitudes, could bring us close to the zero line in terms of economic growth," he said. "It does keep me up at night."

We've had economic growth for decades, and then the banks decided that they wanted to make more money and they convinced people to overstretch themselves to buy a home they couldn't afford.  It's as simple as that.

They tried to tell people "oh you can refinance within a year" and people bought into it.  They made the assumption that within a year, they'd be ok.

Don't make assumptions with your personal wealth and home. If you do, you're opening yourself up to financial ruin.

Moussaoui judge questions government

If the US government screws this up, I'm going to be plenty pissed about it.

We all remember the "America, you lose" comments from Moussaoui, and if the judges in these cases feel that the CIA and other agencies aren't being truthful in their evidence, they are likely to order new trials or worse, set them free.

3,000 people died on 9/11 and anyone even remotely responsible need to be severely punished, and that means following the rules when it comes to the court system.

Perhaps a "heart attack" is in order for Moussaoui?  But that's just the hate in my heart talking.  The American in me says that a fair trial is something that everyone needs, including Moussaoui, regardless of how vile he is.

Too fat to work

What the hell is wrong with the British?  Fat people aren't disabled, I don't care how you slice it.  There might be someone with a rare disease that makes them fat, but you can't tell me that the UK has almost 2,000 of these people.

Their only "disability" is that they are too lazy to get off the couch and they just want to sponge off of other hard working Brits and watch TV all day long.

Kick them in the ass and tell them if they don't slim up, they don't get a check.  Tell someone who's say 500 pounds that they have a year to drop to 400 pounds or the checks will start getting smaller and smaller until they get nothing.

I'm a fat guy myself.  At one point in time, I was 275lbs.  I am now a "thinner" fat guy.  I'm down to 248lbs as of this morning.  What did I do?  I changed my diet and I started exercising regularly.  I started hitting the gym really hard in July.

However, during that entire time, I didn't sponge dime one from the US government trying to shamelessly claim that me being fat was a "disability".  It's a bullshit excuse for people who need a kick in the ass.

There are real life disabled people who could have used that money.  Wounded veterans, workers compensation victims, etc, and you wouldn't hear a peep from anyone for these people getting a few extra bucks.

However, when British citizens pay through the nose in taxes, I don't think it's too fair for the government to waste this money on fatties who won't get a job.

Of course, the "nanny state" gets worse with Social Security Minister's like Frank Field:

Frank Field, a former Social Security Minister, said last night that too many people were working the incapacity benefit system to avoid work. “It is a racket, which governments have allowed to exist for far too long. I do not blame people for working the system, it is the job of politicians to stop them doing it.”

You don't blame people for trying to scam the British government?  This is exactly why such bullshit things continue to happen:  apathy.

If Mr. Field had taken the initiative and started cracking down on these people, the British government could have used that $4.4 million pounds elsewhere.

Student group wants more guns on campus

And who can blame them?  With the recent Virginia Tech shootings and other problems that college students face, if they are legally able to carry a weapon, they should be able to do so.

Of course, there are people who want to twist the truth for their own personal agenda:

"I'm a strong supporter of the Second Amendment," said Massengill, a former head of the Virginia state police. "But our society has changed, and there are some environments where common sense tells us that it's just not a good idea to have guns available."

His view is echoed by Peter Hamm, a spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, who says campus safety concerns cannot be addressed by adding more guns to campuses.

"If there's more we need to do, we certainly need to do that, but introducing random access to firearms is not the solution," said Hamm. "You have more victims, not fewer victims."

They aren't serving alcohol on college campus' like they do in a bar, they are a federal building with judges and other workers, so there should be no reason why someone should be able to carry a weapon.

And the comments from Peter Hamm borders on the retarded.  "Random access to firearms"?, that's not what the students or myself are talking about.  We're not talking about putting a gun next to a fire extinguisher in the hallways.  We're talking about students and staff members who are LEGALLY ABLE TO CARRY A WEAPON, should be able to do so.

It's very difficult for me to believe, and common sense backs me on this, that when a school shooting is happening, if a legally armed student is near the shooting, that they can bring the rampage to an end before more people needlessly die.

Candace Soya, a 20-year-old student at TSU-San Marcos, said she fears chaotic shootouts. If someone decided to open fire on the tree-lined quad in the middle of her campus, armed students would likely make matters worse, she said.

"It's not a situation where you can fight fire with fire," Soya said.

Really?  Roy Balentine, Tracy Bridges, and Michael Gross would like to beg to differ.

All three were involved in two separate school shootings, all three were armed and all three stopped the shooters from killing innocent people.

Perhaps Candace is the type to run when gunfire erupts, which is fine.  However, when someone who doesn't run from danger and puts their lives on the line to end the terror, you can't say that your reaction should dictate how others should react.

Campuses in higher-crime urban neighborhoods also pose risks for students, said Michael Flitcraft, a 23-year-old mechanical engineering student at the University of Cincinnati.

He argues, like most gun rights advocates, that weapons-free regulations only deter law-abiding students, not thugs or mentally ill shooters.

"Laws only affect the people who voluntarily abide by them," Flitcraft said.

Exactly.  Even Virginia Tech killer Cho had followed the law to the letter when he bought the guns, but then turned around and went on campus, against the rules, and killed 30+ people.  So when criminals don't abide by the law, then why not allow the first line of defense in such a situation the ability to carry a weapon if they are legally able to do so?

It's coming down to the wire and Hillary isn't looking as bulletproof as she once was.

Obama is starting to go on the offensive without sounding offensive.  This seems to be resonating with Democratic voters and he likely has a good shot at getting the nomination.

Of course, time will tell if that's true or not, but with Hillary's gaffs lately and Obama's jumping on it, the lead is shrinking drastically.

Parents 'allowed to smack children'

And they rightfully should be able to, but this is for Sweden.

Lately, everyone's been talking about parents who don't do their jobs properly, then we as a society get them into trouble for spanking their children when they get out of line.

There used to be a time in this country when you were caught fucking around, you were beaten by your neighbors because they saw you coming home from school earlier then normal, then you got a spanking from your parents.

People took care of each other back then and looked out for when each other's children were stepping out of line.

Of course, you'll get these panty wasted liberals who want to talk about how spanking a child is morally wrong and scars the children for life and other such nonsense.

Spanking has been around since the beginning of time and only in the last 15 years or so, has it been looked down upon.

That's why today's children are growing up to be sissies and bullies and mouthing off to everyone.

Back when I was growing up, if you told your parents to "shut up" or "fuck off" or any other such nonsense, your ass was red and you were crying inside of seconds.

You were taught respect and manners towards grown ups and if you didn't behave, you were punished for it.

Take a look around and see the bunch of sniveling, self centered types all around you.  That's not to say that they all are like that, but I've seen more then one example of a child acting up and swearing at their parents and the parents do nothing about it.

I've actively gone up to a parent in Target and told them, "If you'd like me to turn around so you can swat them on the ass, I'll gladly do so", only to get a smile and a "Thanks, but I'll put them into timeout" bullshit.

Then what happens?  Nothing.  The child isn't disciplined for their behavior and the parent simply gives up.

Perhaps digging a hole in the middle of the weekend would deter the children.  My friend was punished in a unique way.  His father would wake him up at 5 am on a Saturday, make him a large breakfast, and tell him to dig a 6'x6'x6' hole in the yard.  He had until sundown to finish.  If he was not finished by sundown, then he had to get up at 5 am on Sunday and start again.  The hole was filled back in and he started from scratch the next morning.

Digging will take a lot of snotty attitude out of you, and that might be the way to go for some of these "parents" who don't bother to do actual parenting.

Money drives some Iraqi fighters

Abu Nawall, a captured al-Qaeda in Iraq leader, said he didn't join the Sunni insurgent group here to kill Americans or to form a Muslim caliphate. He signed up for the cash.

"I was out of work and needed the money," said Abu Nawall, the nom de guerre of an unemployed metal worker who was paid as much as $1,300 a month as an insurgent. He spoke in a phone interview from an Iraqi military base where he is being detained. "How else could I support my family?"

You've got to be kidding me.  Here I thought we were in an ideological struggle against people with a twisted view of religion, and some of them are simply trying to earn money?

This begs the question:  Is this one of the main reasons why the insurgency seems to be dying down?  Are they running out of money?  Are they finding out that you can't provide for your family if you are dead?

Col. Twitty seems to think so:

Col. Stephen Twitty, commander of U.S. forces in Mosul and surrounding Nineveh province, said the dismantling of insurgent financing networks is the primary reason that violent attacks here have dropped from about 18 a day last year to about eight a day now.

"We're starting to hear a lot of chatter about the insurgents running out of money," said Twitty, of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. "They are not able to get money to pay people for operations."

So if the unemployment rate goes down, the insurgency dies with it?  It certainly seems that way.

With them running low of money, theoretically, the violence should go down to the point of that of a major US city, with occasional murders and other violent crimes.

But this also may be a culmination of a lot of little things that added up to a main goal of shutting them down.

That would mean that the new tactics of commanders in the field are working and that Democrats owe a big apology to General Petraeus and others for calling them "political hacks" and "General Betray Us".

It seems that they are doing a bang up job and getting the country back on it's feet, which is what their original goal was.

Military Asks Wounded Soldiers To Return Portions Of Signing Bonuses

The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.

Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.

One of them is Jordan Fox, a young soldier from the South Hills.

He finds solace in the hundreds of boxes he loads onto a truck in Carnegie. In each box is a care package that will be sent to a man or woman serving in Iraq. It was in his name Operation Pittsburgh Pride was started.

Fox was seriously injured when a roadside bomb blew up his vehicle. He was knocked unconscious. His back was injured and lost all vision in his right eye.

A few months later Fox was sent home. His injuries prohibited him from fulfilling three months of his commitment. A few days ago, he received a letter from the military demanding nearly $3,000 of his signing bonus back.

Let me ask you something.  $3,000 in the grand scheme of things is nothing, so why not let this young man keep the bonus?  I think I can safely assume had he not been injured that he would have fulfilled his military duties, so who cares about a paltry $3,000?

There are currently about 175,000 troops in Iraq and another 20,000 or so in Afghanistan.

So we have 195,000 troops deployed abroad fighting in wars.

So, let's also assume for a minute that this $3,000 is an average amount.  That's $585 million dollars.  We spend more then that on dumb things.  To give you an idea, that's roughly 1/60th of the amount of pork spending that was passed by Congress in it's last spending bill.  That spending bill included $50,000 to explore the POSSIBILITY of a mule museum.

That same $50k could have paid for the bonuses of 16 "Jordan Fox"'s.

There are some things that could technically be pushed one way or another, such as this situation, however there are situations such as this one, that the money should simply be forgiven and the soldier told "I am sorry you were injured or wounded, your bonuses and benefits will continue on even though you didn't "fulfil" the obligations".

It's not like he didn't want to fulfil those obligations, he simply CAN'T, and the best way to honor him is to make sure that he gets the bonuses and benefits the he and others so richly deserve.

But politicians would much rather spend the money on fucking mule museums.

Stem cell breakthrough uses no embryos

Well this certainly takes the wind out of the sails of people who oppose stem
cell research.

Although, I've never understood their stance on such an issue.  If a fetus has been aborted and is going to be thrown out in the garbage or incinerated, why not use them for the benefit of mankind?

If scientists say that this kind of research can cure a multitude of serious, fatal diseases, why not try to get that research going?  Saving someone from the ravages of Alzheimer's or Cancer would certainly be an acceptable thing to me.

But now scientists have made it so they don't need embryonic stem cells anymore.

Plus, and this is just my evil Republican brain thinking here, if US scientists can make these treatments work, we can make a TON of money internationally from other countries that want to bring our economy down.  Iran can sell us oil at $100 a barrel, but we'll sell them these treatments at $5,000 a pop.

Score one for the knee-jerk naysayers. You know the type: those who find it easier to criticize proposed solutions to tough problems than to propose solutions of their own, which then could be criticized.

Faced with the problem of what to do with thousands of illegal immigrants who drive on state roadways every day to go to work for people who insist with a straight face that they want nothing to do with illegal immigrants, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer proposed a controversial, yet terribly sensible, plan to give the undocumented a state-issued driver's license that would be easily discernible from licenses carried by U.S. citizens and legal residents.

You've got to be shitting me.  This moron seems to think that giving illegal immigrants driving licence's/permits/whatever you want to call it is a "sensible plan"? 

And of course, he wants to make it all sound like it's a "racist" thing.  Simply put, it isn't.  Driving is a privilege that American citizens enjoy.  When you are unable to drive due to health or illegal driving habits, you can't drive anymore.

So why should illegal immigrants be allowed to have this privilege?  Why should illegal immigrants be given anything except emergency health care and a trip back home?

Illegal immigrants deserve none of the things that American citizens enjoy.  We don't get those privileges in other countries, so why should we give them to illegals here?

Easy, they shouldn't.  Want to be able to drive in America?  Become a citizen.

Iraq says the worst is over in Baghdad - Los Angeles Times

Iraq's government today said security statistics showed that Baghdad had "defeated the forces of darkness" after more than a year of sectarian warfare, and the United States said it was crucial that Iraqi leaders use the relative calm to get their political fighting under control.

The government released numbers indicating a major decline in violent attacks in Baghdad and the surrounding areas. Attacks such as bombings numbered 323 last month, compared with 850 in February, when a U.S.-led security crackdown was launched, according to the government figures.

So does this mean that we should see more and more Democrats conceding that Bush's plan for the surge is working and has given the Iraqi leadership the breathing room that is needed?

I think we've given them more then enough space and violence reduction for them to pick up the ball and run with it.

Hopefully they do that and not allow their petty differences to blind them to the fact that they are at a crossroads of history.  They can turn their country into a blossoming democracy that gives a voice to everyone, or they can make everything a fight to the death and make their country a footnote to history.

Powell: Iran far from nuclear weapon - Yahoo! News

Iran is far from acquiring a nuclear weapon, and despite U.S. fears about its atomic intentions, an American military strike against the Islamic Republic is unlikely, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday.

Tehran rejects claims by the United States and some European Union countries that its nuclear program is aimed at secretly producing weapons, insisting it is for peaceful purposes only.

I must admit, I respect General Powell's opinion greatly, and I hope he's right, but I have a few problems with what he's saying.

First off, how does he know?  He's been retired for a few years now, so how's he privy to this information, and if so, is his information correct?

Powell was the secretary of state under President Bush from 2001 to 2005. In September 2004, Powell said Iran's nuclear program was a growing threat and he called for international sanctions.

So does he still feel this way and is merely saying that Iran isn't as close as everyone fears?  Does he still call for these sanctions?

What is his take on the nuclear weapon's documents that the Iranians have already admitted to having?

There are too many unanswered questions and too much hiding of the truth for me to believe that the Iranians are being on the up and up about all this.

Sooner or later, it's either sanctions or an Israeli strike that's going to end this in my opinion.

Kin want infamous NY rape case reopened - Yahoo! News

Twenty years after her allegations of a racially charged rape became a national flashpoint, Tawana Brawley's mother and stepfather want to reopen the case, a newspaper reported Sunday.

"New York State owes my daughter. They owe her the truth," said Glenda Brawley. She reiterated her stance that her daughter was indeed raped by a group of white men who smeared her with feces and scrawled racial epithets on her body.

She got "the truth" when evidence was found that she was lying about the whole story.

She got "the truth" when Al Sharpton opened his mouth and accused innocent people of being rapists and he lost a defamation suit because of it.

When you lie, you don't get a "do over" simply because you want to.  You lied, it was found out about, and now your mom is trying to open her mouth about it.

Why is anyone's guess.  My guess is money from a potential lawsuit, but I could be wrong there.

Either way, a grand jury heard all the evidence and called it a hoax.  So stop your lying and get back to being a member of society.

If it were up to me, I'd charge her with filing a false police report.

But I'm just a jerk that way....you know....holding up people to the letter of the law and such.

Chavez Tells OPEC to Use Politics, Curb `Imperialism'

Sure, go ahead and try to have a price/product war with us, you won't like it.  Sure, it'll raise the price of oil, but don't think for a minute we won't raise the price of goods that you need in your country.

Who do you think controls the vast amount of medical supplies and medicines in the world?

Who do you think controls the vast amount of computers and software in the world?

This saber rattling by Chavez needs to stop quickly, and even Spanish leaders are telling him "why don't you just shut up".

So go ahead and try to undermine us, we're just going to undermine you back and let's face it, America is REALLY good at doing that.

America ships electronic waste overseas

You know, I'm just about at my end for taking it on the chin for being an American.

I'm simply sick and tired of America taking the brunt of everything wrong in the world, even when we clearly aren't at fault.

Case in point:

Most Americans think they're helping the earth when they recycle their old computers, televisions and cell phones. But chances are they're contributing to a global trade in electronic trash that endangers workers and pollutes the environment overseas.

Ok, sounds fair enough.  Sounds like we're doing something bad right?

While there are no precise figures, activists estimate that 50 to 80 percent of the 300,000 to 400,000 tons of electronics collected for recycling in the U.S. each year ends up overseas. Workers in countries such as China, India and Nigeria then use hammers, gas burners and their bare hands to extract metals, glass and other recyclables, exposing themselves and the environment to a cocktail of toxic chemicals.

Ok, so China, India, and Nigeria are using unsafe practices to recycle these materials, and this is somehow America's fault?

Blame them for not recycling properly, save the anti-American slant for someone who might buy into that line of bullshit.

China and Japan use as much electronics as we do, but you don't hear that in this article, you only hear about how America is blindly polluting the environment indirectly.
